Updates

If the new Doff system is close to being complete, then this may be wasted effort on my part, but there are a couple things that should be updated here.

User:Dukedom recently re-uploaded all the images with updated in-game filenames, which I have indexed at User:Dr ishmael/Doff icon index. The filename pattern is now:

 Doffshot [Sf|Ke] <species> [Male|Female] <##> icon.png

Also, the numbers given in getImageCount() are outdated. This should probably also reference faction now, instead of only species/gender, although some species will have to default to a certain faction (e.g. Gorn/Lethean/Nausicaan/Orion only have Ke files, but you can get Sf versions from Lt. Ferra)

When Duke uploaded those, he helpfully included {{dofficoninfo}} in the file summaries. Now using the same kind of hack I used to get the list of common powers, updating counts is no longer needed. Just including {{t|dofficoninfo}} on the file page will do.

Faction keying would be nice, but hopefully it won't be terribly long before we're replacing this with the custom extension, so I'm not sure it's worth the hassle to do so here, given the annoying need to ignore the selected faction for some species. — Eyes 13:00, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Oh yeah, if another duty officer species is added, we'll need to add it to the list on {{doffformicons}}. Best to make sure that's mentioned. — Eyes 13:02, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Spiffy. Unfortunately, there are still a few bugs.

• For Klingon and Trill, there are >20 icons per gender (Klingon has 10 Sf and 20 Ke, Trill has 10 each and also 10 where Dukedom had uploaded them as "Trill"), so SMW returns a "more results" link after the final icon, which borks up the display.
• Selecting a species/gender combination that doesn't exist (e.g. Tosk/Female) leaves a single broken image link with a partial URL: /images/d/d4/
• Jem'Hadar and El-Aurian don't work at all because the filenames use "Jemhadar" and "ElAurian". I added translations for them to {{dofficoninfo}}, and now El-Aurian works, but Jem'Hadar still doesn't, probably due to the apostrophe.
• For species with both Sf and Ke icons, all of them are shown. Not really a bug, and although it might be confusing, it's probably not worth the trouble (would probably require going all the way with the faction-key parsing).

My next step is going to be going through and purging all the old and nonstandard doff icons. I'm a huge proponent of standardization, if you didn't know. :P —Dr Ishmael 15:04, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

All fixed except for both faction icons showing, and I agree that trying to work faction-keying into this widget (and supporting templates) isn't worth the trouble. We can deal with sorting that out once the custom extension is closer to completion. Confirmed, all species work. But now I noticed a more general sort of bug - if you start typing the species but then select an option from the auto-complete, it doesn't update the icons. Subsequently changing the gender will update properly, though. I guess using the auto-complete somehow bypasses the normal update/change events. —Dr Ishmael 16:17, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
