- The following documentation is transcluded from Template:TOC/doc (edit):
Tables of contents contain links to sections within an article, providing easy and automatic on-page navigation. Articles will include a default table of contents when more than three section headings appear. It will appear just before the first heading, aligned left.
- __NOTOC__ removes the table of contents from an article.
- __TOC__ forces the table of contents to appear wherever you place it, regardless of how many headings an article has.
Use of the template[]
Adding {{TOC}}
will have the same effect as __TOC__ but it also allows the use of parameters that can change the alignment or limit the number of headings shown in the table of contents.
Changing the alignment[]
When alignment parameter is added, text will wrap around the floating table.
{{TOC|align=right}}
will force the table of contents to appear on the right of a page, at the position template was placed.{{TOC|align=left}}
will force the table of contents to appear on the left of a page, at the position template was placed.
Limiting the headings[]
Allows limiting of which header levels are shown in the table of contents.
{{TOC|limit=2}}
will limit to showing only level two headings (==Heading==), while{{TOC|limit=3}}
will limit to showing level two headings and level three headings (===headings===), and so on.
Clear[]
Default is <div style="clear:both;></div>
{{TOC|clear=left}}
adds<div style="clear:left;></div>
{{TOC|clear=right}}
