The Excelsior class was a popular and reliable Starfleet ship used for almost a century. The first ship, the namesake U.S.S. Excelsior, was constructed in the 2280s and designed originally for a prototype of a Transwarp Drive (as seen in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock). Despite the failure of the drive, Starfleet recommissioned the Excelsior with a standard warp drive, and began producing more Excelsior-class ships to replace the aging Constitution-class.
The Excelsior-class proved to be a reliable and versatile design, and is still in active service alongside much newer ships. The Excelsior-class participated in the Dominion War and the Battle of Wolf 359. The Excelsior-class, similar to the Constitution-class, underwent a major refit program, adding additional impulse engines, modifications to the warp nacelles, and the expansion of the engineering hull. These modifications are available in Ship Customization.
The Excelsior class was refitted in 2290 with larger engines and an extended engineering section. The Excelsior refit was made popular by vessels such as the USS Enterprise-B as seen in Star Trek: Generations, and the USS Lakota as seen in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Abilities
Console
The Advanced Heavy Cruiser [T6] comes equipped with a [Console - Universal - Tactical Maneuvering Matrix]. This console is part of the Hot Pursuit Set. The Tactical Maneuvering Matrix makes an Advanced Heavy Cruiser even more durable and maneuverable. When activated, Pursuit Mode uses complex predictive algorithms and specialized inertia-less maneuvering thrusters to improve the ship's Speed, Turn Rate, and Damage Resistance, and the amount increases with the number of enemies in combat range. Additionally, your directed energy weapons will cripple your target's engines and maneuvering thrusters for a short time. This will dramatically reduce their turn rate and speed.
This console can only be equipped on the Resolute Advanced Heavy Cruiser and Fleet Resolute Advanced Heavy Cruiser, but can be put into any of their console slots. You may only equip one of these consoles.
The Tactical Maneuvering Matrix excels at engaging an enemy target in a "fur ball," allowing the Advanced Heavy Cruiser (T6) to get into a more favorable position and providing more armor to absorb attacks that make it pass the shields.
Cruiser Commands
As a cruiser, this ship supports the following cruiser commands.
- Ability: Strategic Maneuvering
- Ability: Shield Frequency Modulation
- Ability: Weapon System Efficiency
- Ability: Attract Fire

Hull strength
This table shows how the ship's hull strength scales at each level. The base hull of all scaling starships is 10,000, which is then multiplied by the ship's hull modifier (1.3 for the Resolute-class Advanced Heavy Cruiser), and then multiplied by the scaling multiplier below at each level.
