Being born in the poor Ketha Lowlands on Qo'noS, Martok became the head of the House of Martok and worked his way up the ranks of the Klingon military, finally serving as Chancellor of the Klingon High Council from 2375 until his apparent death at the hands of J'mpok in 2393. In 2410, it is revealed that Torg intervened after J'mpok delivered what should have been the killing blow, taking Martok prisoner in the Son'a Facility 617 at the Briar Patch. Following his liberation, he does not wish to seek Chancellorship from J’mpok, retaining his old rank of General instead and actively joining the Alliance in their fights against numerous current threats and enemies. ==History== * 2375: After Worf kills Gowron, Martok becomes the new Chancellor of the Klingon Empire. Later this year, Martok, together with his Federation and Romulan allies, conquers Cardassia Prime, thereby ending the war against the Dominion. * 2383: The Klingon Empire and the Federation are in disagreement over the morality concerning the former's violent takeover of Khitomer from the Romulans. Several Klingon High Council members demand that Chancellor Martok banish all Federation ambassadors from Klingon space. Martok refuses, causing Councilor Qolka to challenge him in (and subsequently lose) a duel of honor to the death. * 2384: Chancellor Martok expels Gorn diplomats from the empire and orders ships to the Klingon/Gorn border after a brief clash between both forces. * 2385: The Klingon Empire announces that all non-Klingons must leave Khitomer within 14 standard days as a "safety measure". Captain Jean-Luc Picard convinces Chancellor Martok to extend the deadline and leads a contingent of ships to assist in the evacuation of former residents to Federation colonies. * 2386: The Klingon-Gorn standoff escalates into open conflict. Worf makes a personal appeal to his friend Chancellor Martok to end hostilities, but he admits that it will be a long process. * 2387: The Hobus star goes supernova. The resulting chain reaction destroys Romulus and Remus. Billions of Romulans are killed. In his grief and rage, a Romulan called Nero attacks Klingon ships and Chancellor Martok orders a fleet to enter Romulan space. He appoints his friend Worf as one of the mission's commanders, giving him the rank of General for the mission. Although Worf survives, the fleet is destroyed. * 2388: The Federation's appeal to the Klingon Empire to join the relief convoys to Romulan space is harshly rejected by Martok: "The Klingons will offer no treaty, no aid, and no hand that is not holding a blade." Hard-liners led by J'mpok demand that both the Romulans and the Federation be made to pay for the destruction of the fleet led into Romulan space by Worf. Some claim that Martok handing command of the fleet to his friend Worf, a Federation ambassador, rather than a general of the Klingon Defense Force, was part of a Starfleet plot. Martok rejects such insinuations and ultimately refuses calls to retaliate against the Federation. Also occupying Martok's time this year is a possible treaty with the Orions. * 2389: Internal strife divides the Klingon noble houses leading to Chancellor Martok formally dissolving the House of Mo'kai. * 2390: Chancellor Martok announces that the Klingons will not participate in any peace-talks with the Gorn unless Starfleet withdraws all of its ships from the Romulan-Klingon border. * 2391: With the Federation withdrawn from the Romulan border, Chancellor Martok agrees to honor his promise to participate in Federation-mediated peace talks with the Gorn. Representatives from the Klingons, Gorn and Nausicaans converge on Deep Space K-7 for the conference, and the Federation sends some of its most celebrated diplomats to facilitate the talks. * 2392: Three weeks into the talks, representatives for the Klingons and Gorn are still haggling over the official agenda for negotiations, and even a personal appeal to Chancellor Martok by Federation Ambassador Worf has failed to speed up the process. The Federation Council meets in emergency session to debate of possible incentives the Federation could offer the Gorn and Klingons, but all peace efforts collapse when a Gorn and Nausicaan fleet attacks the Klingon world of Ogat. The Klingons denounce the attack as dishonorable and Martok formally pulls the Empire out of all peace negotiations. Hardliners including J'mpok demand even more aggressive action against the Gorn, but Martok councils caution, preferring to keep the Gorn out of Klingon space until a new fleet of warships can be launched. J'mpok subsequently denounces him as a "weak old man, hiding in his bed instead of meeting all challengers on the field of battle." One of the major houses openly supporting J'mpok is the House of Torg, a former ally of the House of Duras. * 2393: J'mpok becomes Chancellor of the Klingon High Council by killing Martok under questionable circumstances in an honor duel. *2410: It is revealed that after J'mpok killed Martok and exited the Council Chambers, the House of Torg immediately took Martok to a Son'a prison facility in the Briar Patch, allowing its radiation to heal Martok's wounds and increase his strength. After he is liberated by an Alliance captain and General Kurn, he does not wish to seek Chancellorship from J’mpok. Instead, he aids in the Alliance's fight against the Tzenkethi, the Hur'q (obtaining the Sword of Kahless in the process), and is also a member of the Klingon Honor Guard. *2411: Following her arrival in the 25th Century, J'Ula addresses the Klingon High Council at the Great Hall over J'mpok's dishonor such as stealing the Chancellorship from Martok and the alliance with the Federation. Rallying other Klingons to her cause, skirmishes broke throughout many systems beginning a new Klingon Civil War. Instructed by J'mpok, Martok accompanies an Alliance captain in hunting for J'Ula, eventually finding her on Khitomer. However, J'mpok launches a massive mycelial weapon provided by Aakar, who betrayed J'Ula, on the planet. Refusing to stand down with the Alliance Captain, whom J'mpok dishonorably accused of the crime, the two of them are forced to ally themselves with J'Ula and labeled as enemies of the Empire. With their names cleared with the aid of Louann Wilkins, the return of L'Rell following a trip to Gre'thor and gathering enough warriors from various Houses, Martok joins the fleet in the final battle of Qo'noS. This resulted in the fall of J’mpok and Aakar with L’Rell, whom Martok handed the Sword of Kahless to after being wounded, taking the place of Chancellor. Two weeks following the fall of J'mpok, he attends the event organized by L'Rell at the Great Hall celebrating with members of his House and their new allies forged during the Civil War. ==Missions involved== * Brushfire: In 2410, Alliance intelligence learns that Martok is not dead. The player accompanies General Rodek to rescue Martok from a Son'a facility in the Briar Patch, where he is being held by Torg. Aided by Kavat'kara, a Jem'Hadar prisoner, they escape the prison. During the battle in orbit, Martok is able to beam to Torg's vessel, the Charghwi'. Martok slays Torg in combat, and claims the Charghwi as his own. Later, he informs Rodek of his true lineage as a Son of Mogh, vows to restore the House of Mogh, and declares that he will not seek the Chancellorship from J'mpok. Instead, he pledges to help the Alliance in their fight against the Tzenkethi. * Red Alert: Tzenkethi: The Tzenkethi have found a new way to Protomatter-bomb planets using torpedoes and they must be stopped. * Scylla and Charybdis: Martok joins the player in defending Bajor against the Tzenkethi and subsequently the Hur'q. * Storm Clouds Gather: General Martok, being accompanied by his wife Sirella, can be consulted at the Alliance summit on the Hur'q threat aboard Deep Space 9. He stands by the player’s side on the importance of fighting the Hur’q, vents his anger on J’mpok’s unwillingness to do so, and assures the player that there are still Klingons who will join them in the fight against the Hur'q in honor of their ancestors. * Home: Martok, wielding the Sword of Kahless, leads a Klingon fleet in the battle for Empersa and commands a landing party engaging Hur'q forces on the surface. After the battle, the player speaks with Martok at Quark's Bar where he expresses disbelief that the Ferengi were responsible for returning the Sword, and admiration for Worf for rallying the Empire to fully engage the Hur'q. * The Centre Cannot Hold: In 2411, Martok is present at the Great Hall during J'Ula's meeting with the Klingon High Council. When asked about the situation inside the Empire, he comments that J'mpok is running out of allies in the brewing conflict, and hints that he intends to settle things with the Chancellor at some point, but that for the moment, J'mpok has his support. J'Ula greets him when she enters the hall and later calls out J'mpok during her speech for stealing his position as Chancellor while Martok still lives. He aids the player in the defeat of House Mo'Kai and Klingon Rebel forces after the meeting and states that his days of neutrality is coming to an end soon. * Best Served Cold: Together with Kagran who commands the Khitomer, Martok coordinates the efforts against House Mo'Kai forces led by Aakar as they attempt a prison break on Rura Penthe. * The Khitomer Discord: J'mpok sends General Martok to accompany the player in hunting for J'Ula and her House Mo'Kai forces in the Khitomer System, referring them as the Alliance's best. Martok first aids in the defense of the Khitomer commanded by Captain Kagran before beaming down. After speaking to the faction representatives and Chairman Ksenneta, they travel toward the lower levels via signal tracing where they capture J'Ula's forces. They then confront J'Ula and Aakar, whereupon Aakar retreats while J'Ula is captured. With the help of Adet'pa, they managed to get back upstairs where they defeat Klingon forces led by Ja'rod, who were sent by J'mpok. Martok swears that J'mpok will no longer have allies when everyone learns what he has done. After J'mpok launches a mycelial weapon on Khitomer, Martok aids the player in rescuing survivors while they head to the transporter room, protecting Adet'pa in the process as she gets the transporter running. In orbit, Captains Kagran, Va'Kel Shon and Koren warp in where J'mpok silences the player before they could explain themselves, dishonorably accuses them of betraying the Alliance and joining House Mo'Kai. Refusing to stand down with the player, Martok orders to disable the flagships and their forces instead of destroying them. Koren or Shon, depending on the player's faction, informs the player that J'mpok will soon declare everyone, including Martok, an enemy of the Empire and advises them to leave Khitomer and wait for their signal once it is safe to return. *Partisans: Martok joins the player to look for Adet'pa, who discovered a way to clear their accusations of the Khitomer attack, in Shangdu on Nimbus III. He first expresses his concerns about J’Ula to the player and aids in battling the ambush of J'mpok's and Madran's forces at the bar and in the arena respectively. He later follows the player to the Gorath System on board the Rotarran, where J'Ula has engaged more of J'mpok's forces, and beams down with them. On the surface, mocking the arena which previously belonged to the House of Torg, he assists the player in the defense of Wilkins against J'mpok's forces while she hacks the various computer codes. They are then confronted by Aakar and his forces, where Aakar flees while his forces are defeated. Finally, he aids the player in defending the Lukara against J'mpok's flagship, the Kri’stak, and his forces while Wilkins works on broadcasting the evidence. However, despite clearing their names and everyone in the system learning the truth about J'mpok's attack on Khitomer, the mission ends with the various Klingon Houses losing trust of the Empire and thus returned to their own homes. *Knowledge is Power: The player meets with Martok, J'Ula and Adet'pa in the Boreth System where they first engage KDF forces. While the player keeps watch in orbit, the latter three beam down and meet Tenavik where he guides J'Ula throughout the trials she undertakes. One of the visions J'Ula sees depicts Martok, wielding the Sword of Kahless, lying dead among a sea of other dead Klingons on Qo'noS. Another vision depicts a 'warrior of fire' wielding the Sword of Kahless and uniting the Empire, which concerned Martok as the bearer of the blade. Martok then aids in battling Aakar, the Sons of None and other KDF forces throughout the chambers, seeking information from Tenavik throughout the mission. Finally, he and the others join the player back in orbit to defeat Aakar's flagship and his reinforcements. *Leap of Faith: Martok, J'Ula and Adet'pa return to Boreth, this time with the player joining them to seek out the soul of L'Rell in Gre'thor to unite the Great Houses once more. While Adet'pa remains with Tenavik, the others lit an incense which took them into Koth, the void between Sto-vo-kor and Gre'thor. Here, Martok reunites with Gowron who leads the team to the Barge of the Dead, catching up with each other in the process. During the journey and in Gre'thor itself, the player, Martok and J'Ula ask the Barge crew, Kortar and the various souls about L'Rell. After defeating the souls of the Sons of None, they meet L'Rell herself and journey into Fek'lhr's lair, where they defeat Fek'lhr in exchange for L'Rell's soul. Gowron enters the lair offering his soul before J'Ula could finish offering hers, where Fek'lhr tangles him in chains and Martok tries to help him up. Fek'lhr eventually accepts J'Ula's offer of Aakar's and J'mpok's souls, and the team escapes Gre'thor defeating more souls coming after them. They awake back on Boreth and witness the rebirth of L'Rell. The player, Martok and Adet'pa beam up to defend the system from the Fek'Ihri, destroying the portals and holding them off until L'Rell finally launches a new flagship. Reinforcements warp in and they all defeat the Fek'lhri dreadnought and save Boreth, celebrating their victory in the end. *Warriors of the Empire: Martok first confides in the player in a problem he is facing, getting the others to agree on a common plan forward for their next move. His initial plan to confront J'mpok on Qo'noS would be too much for them to handle with the heightened security, as well as reminiscing his last battle they had over the Chancellor's seat. The player's ship first carries Martok and his forces to the Beta Penthe System, where they beam aboard the system's stations and liberate warriors of House Kang, while dealing with Madran in the process. With information from Madran, Martok managed to find General K'nal in Station Beta after the latter staged a riot after the player's fight against a dreadnought in orbit distracted the guards. He beams back up and throws Madran by the ear into the player’s brig. Back on the Rotarran, Martok aids in the battle against the Elachi in the Qu'Vat System while the player and J'Ula beam into a large mycelial rift to shut down its systems and gather allies, while reassuring that the warriors of House Kang and Korath will answer the call to arms once they have regrouped. **Jailbreak at Rura Penthe (Rura Penthe System) **Redemption over Qu'Vat (Qu'Vat System Patrol) *A Day Long Remembered: With allies gathered and preparing for the final battle of Qo'noS, Martok laughs heartily as he reminisces a time when a young Ferengi Starfleet cadet told three Klingons, himself included, to move. Reinforcing that courage comes in all sizes as the boy had more courage than ten nuchpu's surrounding J'mpok. Along with the player, J'Ula and L'Rell, Martok motivates everyone with a speech and waits for the player's word before departing for Qo'noS. In orbit of Qo'noS, the Rotarran charges into battle with the player and their allies as they defeat Lethean, Nausicaan, Ferasan and later J'mpok's flagship and his forces. J'mpok flees back into the Great Hall and Martok advises J'Ula to issue a formal challenge, having known J'mpok longer than anyone and that his arrogance will not allow him to refuse. On the surface, the player, Martok, J'Ula and L'Rell fight through more of J'mpok's forces as they make their way to the courtyard outside the Great Hall. Before they could make their next move, Aakar wounds Martok from behind and he is forced to beam back to the Rotarran, but not before handing the Sword of Kahless to L'Rell. Two weeks following the defeat of J'mpok, Martok is seen celebrating with Worf, Captain Koren, and their allies from House Kang and Korath. The player checks up on him, where he remembers the unpleasant experience running away from a mycelial destruction, but is pleased with J'mpok and Aakar in Gre'thor. This however, means the release of Gowron from Gre'thor to Sto-vo-kor which pleases Martok, knowing that Gowron was probably on his way to taking charge of Fek'lhr's Hall when he was released. *: After being wounded by Aakar which forced him to beam back to the Rotarran, Martok aids Adet'pa and Kagran coordinating Alliance efforts in destroying the Kri'stak and the Targ. When the Kri'stak targets a player's ship, Martok instructs them to swiftly move into the<nowiki/> Targ<nowiki/>'s position, allowing the mycelial weapon to hit and the Mo'Kai virus to disable her. Martok will also instruct players to destroy repair ships and cloaking devices aiding the Kri'stak, and when both ships are disabled, he targets the two flagships alongside players and destroys them. *: Martok is present at Admiral Quinn's briefing on Earth Spacedock alongside the Klingon Empire before the final battle against the Terran Empire commences in Sol System. ==Other involvement== *Loresinger B'Alea gives background to the Martok and his duel with J'<nowiki/>mpok.<nowiki/> *"Cold Dishes": Klingon Commander Korok meets with Torg to ask about a prisoner they have been holding for the past seventeen years, whom they are preparing to transfer to new owners. *"Tale of the Witch": General Rodek and his wife, B'irja, travel to Nimbus III in search of Adet'pa, a Klingon woman known locally as a "witch." They discover the cave she lives in, and she invites them inside for a meal. Adet'pa correctly deduces that they have sought her out to learn the truth behind J'mpok's duel with Martok in 2393. She reveals that Torg intervened after J'mpok delivered what should have been the killing blow, taking Martok prisoner and maintaining him in a near-death state. Torg did this in order to install J'mpok as Chancellor; later, he would undermine J'mpok and assume the role himself, with the ultimate goal of establishing himself as a new Emperor. Adet'pa had been discredited and exiled to prevent her from sharing her knowledge of these events. She tells Rodek and B'irja that she will tell them where Martok is being kept, if they agree to bring her back to Klingon space and arrange for asylum within the House of Martok. *"New Featured Episode: Brushfire": Sirella visits General Rodek, who is preparing the Kor to depart on a mission to rescue Martok from the Son'a, having helped him plan the operation before it was presented to J'mpok and the High Council. She urges Rodek to, if it comes to it, send his ship to the edge of the Briar Patch to make Torg pay for the death of M'ven. *"A Warrior Reborn": At Starfleet Medical, Doctor Oskar Mazur is able to restore General Rodek's original memories as Kurn, with input from the original surgeon who had removed them, Julian Bashir. Following cosmetic surgery to restore his original appearance, Kurn meets with his wife, B'irja, and his brother, Worf. Kurn tells Worf that if Martok restores the House of Mogh, he will not contest Worf's right to lead it. Kurn states that he will honor his debt to the House of Noggra, who took him in as Rodek, and treated him well. Kurn says he intends to move to the Alpha Quadrant after he recovers from his surgery, intending to continue the fight against the Tzenkethi. He suggests that he and his family may settle aboard Deep Space 9. Worf warns Kurn that enemies within the Klingon Empire will be moving against them in retaliation for the rescue of Martok. *"qa'wI' 'oy'Hey": Martok confronts Chancellor J'mpok on his refusal to commit the Empire to combating the threat of the newly-emerged Hur'q. J'mpok reminds Martok of the heavy price the Empire has paid for joining the Alliance against other major threats to the galaxy such as the Undine and Iconians. Martok however believes he is acting dishonorably and seems ready to challenge him for his cowardice, but is placated when J'mpok authorizes Martok to organize and lead a volunteer force to engage the Hur'q. *"Best Served Cold": Kagran and Martok discuss Aakar's attack on Rura Penthe. *"Hoch 'ebmey tljon": During the events of “The Khitomer Discord”, Chancellor J'mpok faces a difficult choice when he meets a potential new ally, who gifts him with J'Ula's mycelial weapon, giving him the opportunity to take out Martok, J'Ula and other enemies of the Empire who are still on the surface of Khitomer. ==Gallery== <gallery> File:Martok Prisoner.png|Prisoner of the Son'a File:Martok Word and Grilka Home.png|Martok, Worf and Grilka arrive File:Klingon troops on Empersa Home.png|Martok rallies Klingon troops on Empersa File:Martok Qo'nos.png|Martok at J'Ula's meeting with the High Council in 2411.
