What begins as an ordinary patrol mission in Beta Ursae becomes vastly more complicated after the Orion Syndicate launches a massive multi-pronged slave raid against multiple backwater planets.

Synopsis[ | ]

Admiral Anthony Marconi, overall commander of Starfleet's forces in the Beta Ursae Sector Block, sends a request to Starfleet Command for additional patrol ships. The player is dispatched to Deep Space 9, where Marconi assigns them to a patrol route vacated by the currently damaged U.S.S. Defiant.

The player travels to the Malon System, starting at the fourth planet. After passing an asteroid mining operation they receive a distress signal from a freighter that has come under attack by Jem'Hadar ships. After rescuing the S.S. Shargrash they move to return to their route, but then Marconi pulls them off to investigate a garbled message from the Bajoran colony world Dreon VII.

Upon arrival in the Dreon system the player finds that Orion Syndicate has attacked the colony and has been killing and kidnapping the inhabitants. They destroy the Orions' orbiting ships, then beam down and provide assistance. They are soon contacted by Marconi, who has learned that this was only one raid among many: there were over twenty separate attacks that he knows about.

Starfleet Command dispatches the Marduk Carrier Battle Group under Admiral Amnell Kree to try and track down the kidnapped civilians. With the help of a Section 31 operative named Grell who has an inside source, the battle group quickly locates an Orion base in the Badlands and launches an assault. They destroy a large fleet of mixed Klingon Defense Force ships and board the station. They are able to rescue some hostages but unfortunately most of the 10,000+ kidnappees have already been transshipped. After describing what intelligence they have gathered from the base, Kree tells the player to return to their normal duties. They'll call back when they learn something.

Deep Space 9 has requested additional patrol vessels to combat a rise in piracy, terrorism, and generalized mayhem. Admiral Nadifa La Forge, Starfleet Command, has ordered you to travel to the Beta Ursae Sector Block and report to Admiral Marconi for assignment to a patrol route. This should be a pretty run-of-the-mill civil defense patrol posting.
