The assignment "Requisition R&D Assistance" can be picked up from the appropriate Personnel Officer or Duty Officer console at the Klingon Academy, Starfleet Academy or New Romulus Command by selecting 'Submit Request for Personnel' and then 'Request R&D Assistance'. This Duty Officer assignment requires no officer, but does require 1000 Refined Dilithium ().

In return, you will gain R&D materials (ranging from common to very rare) with a chance of gaining a Duty Officer to help in your crafting.
