The Varanus Fleet Support Vessel is a battleship used by the Gorn Hegemony. They are built to support other Gorn ships, not unlike science vessels.

Some Varanus Fleet Support Vessels are operated by the Klingon Defense Force, such as the I.K.S. Tul.

• “Devil's Choice”: The I.K.S. Varanus is part of a joint Starfleet/KDF fleet that assists the Romulan Republic defend New Romulus from an Elachi invasion fleet.
• “Halting the Gorn Advance”: The I.K.S. Skaut, I.K.S. Strazss, I.K.S. Vrah, and I.K.S. Zadak command a Gorn fleet attacking the Tostig System.
• Varanus Support Vessels are among the Gorn ships raiding starbases in:
  • “Fleet Alert”
  • “Starbase Fleet Defense”
  • “Fleet Transport Defense”
• “No Win Scenario”: In Combat Simulation 347, Varanus Support Vessels are among the Gorn ships attacking a Civilian Transport.
• “Nequencia Alpha System Patrol” (KDF): The player assists the crew of the I.K.S. Tul in obtaining a valuable resource needed on Romulan Republic colonies.
• “Midnight”: The I.K.S. Varanus is part of the Alliance fleet defending the Sol System, where it responds to a distress call from Jupiter Station.

Trivia

• Like all other Gorn starship classes, the Varanus designation is a reference to reptiles from Earth's fauna and/or mythology. The Varanus is the scientific name for the Monitor Lizard, which is found throughout Africa and Asia.
