Hello![]

I wanted to get in touch with you. You have done a great job with the looks and everything, but there is tons of work to be done. Leave me a message on my talk page when you get this. Thanks!

Forums[]

What are you planning for the forums? A discussion page, or a real forum. I have the domain STOForum.org, and a forum there I did last night on my forum hosting service. If you like that idea, we can keep it like that, or whatever you want to do man. <span=help title="bobalobabingbong's User Page">~bobalobabingbong -=[ <span=help title="boba's Talk Page">T + <span=help title="boba's Contributions">C ]=- @ 16:09, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Since there's already an official Star Trek Online forum, I decided it was just going to be a casual discussion page for miscellaneous topics. –TerranRich {haillog} 00:02, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Gotchya. I was thinking site related stuff, but that can be accomplished in the same. <span=help title="bobalobabingbong's User Page">~bobalobabingbong -=[ <span=help title="boba's Talk Page">T + <span=help title="boba's Contributions">C ]=- @ 03:49, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Help[]

Hey, listen, if you're not going to be around much, that's fine, but I need some access to edit pages like Project_talk:Current_events. Also, to delete pages would be good. I have created pages that were useful, then figured a better way to do it. <span=help title="bobalobabingbong's User Page">~bobalobabingbong -=[ <span=help title="boba's Talk Page">T + <span=help title="boba's Contributions">C ]=- @ 02:43, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

I'm currently looking into how to set user permissions and settings in the MediaWiki environment, which isn't easy. It's like they purposefully made it impossible to do. But trust me, you'll get full admin (sysops) power once I figure out how. –TerranRich {haillog} 00:02, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good. I haven't messed with the admin stuff in a wiiki in a while. I can't remember how it's done, just that it's a pain. <span=help title="bobalobabingbong's User Page">~bobalobabingbong -=[ <span=help title="boba's Talk Page">T + <span=help title="boba's Contributions">C ]=- @ 23:55, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

STOWiki namespace[]

If you add the following to LocalSettings.php, we can use the prefix STOWiki instead of Project.

$wgExtraNamespaces[100] = "STOWiki";
$wgExtraNamespaces[101] = "STOWiki_talk";

That should work, unless of course you have already added custom namespaces, then you already know what to do. If you want those pages to be counted as articles, then add:

$wgContentNamespaces[] = 100;

Howdy[]

I decided to sign up today and have just started doing some work on some articles. Everything looks good so far. I guess work here is going to start picking up soon with all the information the're releasing and closed beta having started. Qrion 03:36, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Excellent! Thank you. The more people we get on board, the better chance this site will have of being the "official" go-to wiki for all things Star Trek Online. I wonder if the folks at Cryptic would even link to us if we got big enough. Also, closed beta has already started? I guess I didn't make it in. I could've started taking notes on stuff to add once the game went public. –TerranRich {haillog} 00:02, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Yep, started on the 22'nd. I was going to add it to current events but I didn't realize I had to be an admin to do that. And don't worry, StormShade said they'll still be inviting people in through the whole closed beta. I applied the day they announced signups, keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get in before open beta. Qrion 06:07, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Greetings[]

From a fellow ST fan, etc. etc. I am also an experienced mediawiki administrator and would be interested in assisting with various technical aspects of this wiki as we get closer to STO's release. Thorncrag 02:16, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Absolutely! Let me know what wiki(s) you administrate, and how you'd like to help! –TerranRich {haillog} 00:02, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Actually I realize I should clarify that my experience is administering mediawiki software--I am not an administrator on any Wikipedia Foundation projects, though I am a contributor. I primarily administer an internal corporate mediawiki, although I did setup the never-completed lineagewiki.com. I am well-versed with templating and technical aspects. I have quite a few recommendations and must-have extensions to suggest for this project. Is there an email I can contact? Thorncrag 00:43, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Or you could enable your accept email from other users option :) Thorncrag 00:49, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Sorry about that, you can email me now. :) And I'm curious to hear about the extensions you'd recommend. –TerranRich {haillog} 00:02, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Cite extension[]

Would it be possible to install the Cite extension [1] for making footnotes and giving sources? --Echoray 14:02, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

All set! It's been installed and activated. Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't realize it was an extension that did that. –TerranRich {haillog} 00:02, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

diff css[]

Not sure if you know about it, but the css for displaying diffs has not yet been updated to the STOWiki theme. Example. —Rick 08:59, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Not to mention that light gray on white is next to impossible to read... :) --Lem 14:03, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
The reason why it was set to light gray on white is because the body text was set to light gray (like the rest of the site), while the edit comparison boxes were left at their default white. I fixed them now. –TerranRich ( hail ∙ log ∙ comm ) 21:00, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
Much better, thanks. —Rick 01:02, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

NPC infobox[]

It might be worth creating an NPC infobox, there is gonna be quite a lot of them on here eventually I would have thought. Might be useful for some features like auto categorisation later. I would do it but you use a slightly different format to how I am used to. --Lem 21:45, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Ok I made one but it uses the formatting of the mission box at the moment, will need more faction color schemes for Romulans, cardassians and "other" affiliation like the klingon and federation at the moment. What do ya think? :) --Lem (talk) 14:19, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
It looks good! I think it's a good idea to have a consist look for infoboxes like that. As for Cardassian and Romulan factions, these boxes can easily accommodate them...green for Romulan, brown/gold for Cardassian. Thanks! –TerranRich ( hail ∙ log ∙ comm ) 14:56, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Weapons, items and other stuff?[]

How are we handling these? Are we going with a similar method to how Lem has set out the Missions? I.e. using templates and Weapon:Random_Weapon_Name_Mk_II then adding to a Catgegory:Weapons, or is some other method better? Flibby 23:33, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Check out the Project:Manual of Style, which is part of the Project:Guidelines that everybody is required to read. I need some way of publicizing updates to that Manual. –TerranRich ( hail ∙ log ∙ comm ) 23:49, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Flibby 23:55, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

missions[]

So this mission namespace doesn't appear to be visible? I can't access any of the mission data, all I get is red links... --Lem (talk) 15:51, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Ok I take that back I can see them again now.. weird though --Lem (talk) 15:52, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, I tinkered around with actually making the Mission: thing a real wiki namespace, and it blew up in my face. I then had to repair everything manually in the database one article at a time. It's back to not being an actual namespace, and just articles beginning with "Mission:". –TerranRich ( hail ∙ log ∙ comm ) 22:03, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Messed up tables[]

Just wanted to let you know, as it must have been due to something getting changed in the stylesheets (maybe to do with the new border around the contents list on an article), that a bunch of tables across the site have developed 1 - 2px borders, and some borders have messed up colours such as Federation vessels, Player race and Class_(starship). Wasn't sure if this was intentional or not and just wanted to let you know. Flibby 00:07, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

I recently made it so that all tables had borders by default. I just added CSS styling for a "plain" table class, so we should use that from now if we are going to use tables without any borders (e.g. for styling and content placement, which really should be done using DIV tags instead). –TerranRich ( hail ∙ log ∙ comm ) 00:17, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll edit any more that I notice with the plain class... or probably just change them to use div's. Flibby 00:18, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Just using DIVs with a float of left/right, margin spacing between them, and a "clear: both" DIV after each one works the same as using tables. :) –TerranRich ( hail ∙ log ∙ comm ) 01:24, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Recent Changes needs to be fixed too (may only look ugly with JS enhancement enabled). —Rick 04:22, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Fixed with CSS. Thanks! –TerranRich ( hail ∙ log ∙ comm ) 04:50, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm not seeing it fixed here? (and of course I cleared my cache for stowiki) —Rick 07:30, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Can you tell me exactly what's wrong with the Recent Changes page? It doesn't look off to me. –TerranRich ( hail ∙ log ∙ comm ) 11:05, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Every recent change in the list has a border around it, which only shows up if you have "Enhanced recent changes (requires JavaScript)" enabled in Preferences (under Recent Changes). —Rick 12:42, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Okay, this is a mess. I'm getting rid of borders around tables without class names. Shouldn't have done that in the first place. :( –TerranRich ( hail ∙ log ∙ comm ) 13:55, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

infoboxes[]

Hi Rich, I think this might be something to do with the div class for the infoboxes but they seem to want headlines to clear the bottom before they are shown. This means on the longer infoboxes you get with images or a lot of data like on Federation Escort you get a lot of wasted black space. It would be better if the headlines could wrap to the infobox like they do on memory alpha etc as you aren't wasting space then (eg. http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Jean-Luc_Picard) --Lem (talk) 14:56, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, thanks for that. I finally figured out how to do it. Thank you very much! –TerranRich ( hail ∙ log ∙ comm ) 15:51, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Apply for super awesome user admin status[]

G'day. I'd like to apply for super awesome user admin status (that is, 'administrator' or 'bureaucrat' status). Long time user and admin of the MediaWiki software (http://www.gamegrene.com/wiki/ and http://www.videounderbelly.com/ are two public wikis I control; I've another one in development), template creator, plugin user, yadda yadda yadda. I assume "Star Trek and MMO fan" are implied. ;) --Morbus Iff 13:51, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

You've got it! Always looking for more dedicated admins and contributors. Oh, and Star Trek and MMO fans. :D –TerranRich (TCE) @ 13:54, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks much! I'll be in the headstart tomorrow, etc. Of primary/current interest to me will be mission copies and badges of honor/exploration lists. I do so love mini-achievements.--Morbus Iff 13:55, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Awesome, I'll be in headstart tomorrow as well. Since I don't think I can use my Liberated Borg or my Constitution Class just yet, I'll work on my alt first... as weird as that sounds. –TerranRich (TCE) @ 13:57, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Hey Rich if you need more I am happy to help too, I have been a sysop on the official guild wars wiki under the name lemming64 for over 2 years so I am familiar with the tools and the responsibility. --Lem (talk) 15:17, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
You've been doing some great stuff here, so DONE. :) –TerranRich (TCE) @ 16:08, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Extensions: StringFunctions and DPL?[]

StringFunctions, like ParserFunctions, allows for more template functionality:

And DPL is a brain-hurting, but delicious, query language:

--Morbus Iff 14:05, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Ah, I could definitely use something like StringFunctions. As for DPL, I'll leave that up to you to use. What does it even do? (Both are installed by the way.) –TerranRich (TCE) @ 14:14, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
DPL is primarily used in two ways: a) to provide custom searches for "things to do" pages. Like, over at Memory Alpha, I have a DPL for "all pages in the Characters category that do not have a Template:Character", i.e., that's something that needs to be fixed. The other thing it's good at is automating lists we would normally have to maintain, such as, say, List_of_episodes. Whether it can replicate those lists depends entirely on sorting, templates used, and so forth. It can do a lot, but it does take a bit of getting used to. --Morbus Iff 14:37, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Sweet! That's insanely useful then. So you help run Memory Alpha? –TerranRich (TCE) @ 14:39, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Nah, just a user. And I meant Memory-Beta, sigh. http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/User:Morbus_Iff. I've been reading (or, in some cases) re-reading Every Star Trek Fiction Ever, and had plans to fill out the stub pages for some of the books over there, but just ran outta time to do so. Now I'm just keeping a list of the books I own/have read (though, you can see the DPL I was talking about linked). You can see a list of another (admin) user's maintenance DPLs at http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/User:Captainmike/DPLs. --Morbus Iff 14:52, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
DPL can also do cool things like propagate list of missions with data from the individual page infoboxes. that way you only need to maintain the information in one location. --Lem (talk) 15:13, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, that'll be one of my first goals - getting all the missions using the right infoboxes and so forth, so that we can at least explore the use of DPL to generate those pages. Likely I'll be doing what TerranRich does - starting with an alt for wiki-purposes, then doing my main once I get the actual Box and my bonus codes. --Morbus Iff 15:21, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Awesome stuff. I look forward to seeing what DPL can do! –TerranRich (TCE) @ 16:07, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Missions: namespace nor prefix?[]

Sup. Please see http://stowiki.org/wiki/User_talk:Lem#Mission_prefix:_neither_namespace_nor_necessary. --Morbus Iff 21:54, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Lem thinks you intended for namespaces. See http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Using_custom_namespaces for getting that setup properly. --Morbus Iff 22:17, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
My thinking is this: using a prefix avoids any possibility of duplicate articles, especially with items. I can't think of any examples at the moment, but I nearly ran into having duplicate articles the other day, so I've just been using prefixes. I've seen WOWwiki do it, and I guess I thought it would work here as well. What else would you guys suggest? –TerranRich (ETC) @ 22:50, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
In MediaWiki terms, "prefixes", such as Quest:ABC, would usually be a MediaWiki namespace. For those sites that didn't implement namespaces (easiest way to tell? check out the search page filter options: http://www.wowwiki.com/Special:Search?search=a&go=1 shows that they made "Guild" and "Server:" a namespace, but "Quest:" they're using just as a prefix), they mimick namespaces by not having a space between the prefix and the subject. If we're not gonna use a namespace (and I'd be OK with that), I would suggest we move all to the no-space prefix format (Mission:ABC, not Mission: ABC). I can do that tis weekend or tonight if you say engage. --Morbus Iff 23:00, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
I quite like it how it is, normally on other wikis I have seen they distinguish between things with the same name using brackets after eg. Tribbles (mission) and Tribbles (item) and have a disambig page on Tribble. I don't see the point in getting rid of the space at all to be honest. --Lem (talk) 23:05, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
That's fine... I just don't want a Mission namespace, as they are excluded from search results, aren't they? If not, then a namespace would be fine, but I don't see the point in having an actual namespace for Mission articles... I tried that a few days ago and made a mess of things after I reverted back to non-namespace usage. So moving them all to Mission:ABC instead of Mission:_ABC is fine by me! –TerranRich (ETC) @ 23:13, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
@Lem: the disambiguation and (parens) suffixes sort of thing is directly from Wikipedia, primarily because the use of additional namespaces for organizing content tends to be frowned upon - Wikipedia doesn't use it at all, nor do any of the Wikia-hosted installations. @TerranRich: by default, custom namespaces are excluded from the search, but the end-user could use to search them specifically. There's also a way to *force* a new namespace to be searched by default but, if I recall correctly, that would only affect new users who havent' yet saved any preferences... existing users would have to manually add a new namespace to their default search via the preferences. @Both: Ideally, I just want us to use *something* that *other wiki users can expect to know*. That's either a) suffixes per Wikipedia, b) actual custom namespaces, or c) prefixing with no spaces. I've never seen, in any major wiki, the use of "Prefix: ABC" (with space). From those three options, if I had to choose one that would satisfy most everyone, it'd be c), "Prefix:ABC". --Morbus Iff 23:34, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
It's not really a problem from a searching point of view as you can make redirects to cover the search possibilities. I still like the space though :) --Lem (talk) 23:50, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
It doesn't matter to me either way, but you can easily add a namespace to the search results. See User_talk:TerranRich#STOWiki namespace. <span=help title="bobalobabingbong's User Page">~bobalobabingbong -=[ <span=help title="boba's Talk Page">T + <span=help title="boba's Contributions">C ]=- @ 07:17, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
I think "Mission:ABC" without a custom namespace (unnecessary) is the way I'd like to go then. –TerranRich (ETC) @ 10:55, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Double Page, Double Trouble[]

Template:Infobox, “Stop The Signal”, and a request[]

Hi! Sorry to be dropping so much on you at once, but there are a few things I've noticed that I wanted to bring to your attention.

1: Template:Infobox is great, but as I wrote on its discussion page, the head1 field doesn't seem to be working. On your example ... okay, never mind, it seems like you fixed this as I was writing this, haha! Thank you!

2: “Stop The Signal” is basically the same as the page I made, “Stop the Signal” but I think my capitalization is the proper in-game one. Not quite 100% on that, but pretty sure. I didn't realize there was another page until after I'd gotten started on my own, but I can't delete it, and it's probably best to leave it up to your judgment, anyway.

3. That request; I was wondering if you would be willing to make me an admin? I'll admit freely that I only know the basics of wikicode, but I'm doing my best to learn as I go, and I'm a huge Trekkie, so I would absolutely love to help STOwiki out as much as possible. I'll understand if you don't think I'm qualified for the position, however.

Thanks! --Kinetic1028 10:59, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Hey, yeah, I noticed that head1 thing as well, and fixed it just now. :-P As for being an admin, I really need people who will enforce style guidelines (such as proper capitalization, proper usage of infobox templates, proper formatting of certain types of articles, etc.). If you think you can do this, then let me know. :) –TerranRich (ETC) @ 11:05, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Oh, sure, I'd definitely be able to do that! When you say proper formatting of certain types of articles, I'm assuming you mean the ones listed in Project:Manual_of_Style#Article_Formatting, right? --Kinetic1028 11:15, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Absolutely, that same article. Consistency is important to me and will offer a great deal of credibility to this site, especially since great things are in store for STOWiki. You're in. I'll be sending all admins a message regarding an admins-only forum for discussion of site policies, updates to the Manual of Style, etc. Welcome aboard! –TerranRich (ETC) @ 11:17, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Thank you so much! :D --Kinetic1028 12:38, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
In-game version is Stop The Signal, capitalized. The page was originally called Stop the Signal, but Lem had moved it to the capitalized version last week. My preference *IS NOT* grammar and punctuation rules that WE decide, but rather exacting duplication of the game usage. --Morbus Iff 12:41, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
I just went through my Captain's Log, and it's saying Stop the Signal, 'the' not capitalized. --Kinetic1028 12:57, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, it would be fine to have one article redirect to the other, but which one takes precedence? This is where the forum comes in handy. –TerranRich (ETC) @ 13:51, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
I don't know. I'm planning on making a second UFC character within a couple of days, so I could find out for sure which version is the correct one. --Kinetic1028 13:56, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
You mean UFP? I'm making an alt for the purposes of information farming as well. :P –TerranRich (ETC) @ 13:57, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Noooo, an Ultimate Fighting Championship character! Haha, sorry, I'm usually better at catching my own typos. Guess I'm still not used to this new keyboard. --Kinetic1028 14:00, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, the C and P keys are like right next to each other. LOL... a UFC MMORPG... now that'd be something. :P –TerranRich (ETC) @ 14:01, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Example:_Item_InfoBox_Formatting[]

Should I go ahead and delete this, since we're using Template:Infobox? If so, there are also several Infobox:____ pages, should I delete them too? --Kinetic1028 18:20, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Yes, please delete all of them, as we're doing it differently now. –TerranRich (ETC) @ 18:33, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Will do! --Kinetic1028 18:45, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Handling skills[]

Wondering how you want skills handled. I know the manual of style says to use a separate page for all skills with a Skill: prefix, like Skill: Assault Training but it doesn't say anything about Bridge Officer skills like "Science Team" which has 3 levels but they all do the same thing - just each higher grades have more power. Do you want 3 different articles for each page or just one article showing the skill and the differences between ranks? Currently the bridge officer abilities page links have each skill as a separate article but I wanted to make sure as it'll be a nightmare to edit once there all there.

I only came across this when I started to add all of the skill table skills for each profession and faction, and when I came across skills that unlocked another skill I was unsure how to proceed so I wanted to ask first before adding any more.

Thanks Flibby 12:55, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

If you ask me keep all three levels on the same page and provide information about them all there. --Lem (talk) 12:47, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
I'd agree Flibby 12:55, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
I agree as well. Just like items are handled (aMks on one page), Skills should be handled that way, too. I'm still a bit foggy on the difference between player skills and BOff skills. –TerranRich (ETC) @ 16:09, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Player skills are things that can be trained with skill points, bridge officer skills are strictly speaking abilities as they provide the players with space abilities/powers that player skills improve and the bridge officers with their own ground abilities which again are improved by the player skill. Player abilities are awarded for reaching certain ranks/grades, they too are improved by player skills, and some are the same as bridge officer abilities like "target shields". Cryptic sure didn't make this easy! --Lem (talk) 17:14, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Do you want go with "Abilities" or "Powers" for them? It's my hash up really since I put all of the {{skill|}} stuff on the abilities, so if you can let me know which you prefer I'll make a new template and go edit them all. --Flibby 17:17, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
I'll go with abilities... sorry for the haste and not waiting for a reply, I just wanted to get them all edited before any more get put in. I'll put them in a new category and add a new template. --Flibby 17:43, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
No problem. Do what you feel is right and would work the best. We're all equals here. I just happen to have slightly more access to the code. :-P –TerranRich (ETC) @ 21:18, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Apostrophe in search bar = 403 Forbidden[]

I known I mentioned this a while back in an e-mail, but it's getting hard to search for things, especially for the Klingon side as many of the Klingon Empire names have a ' in them. I googled around for something about it and someone mentioned something about it possibly being caused by one of the addons that are used with the Wiki. Not sure if that helps much, but wanted to mention. --Flibby 12:06, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Someone else emailed me and pointed out that changing the URL worked, so I went ahead and manually changed the URL that the search buttons call up. –TerranRich (ETC) @ 14:43, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
Works great now, thanks for sorting that. --Flibby 14:46, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Second skin[]

Second skin looks very clean and nice. The only problem I can see with it is if people develop tables etc. for articles with it, then they will look very messed up on the LCARS skin due to one having 100% page width and one having about 65%. --Flibby 22:05, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Also some tables are messed up with the skin. Such as skill tables and the header on tables like the bridge officer abilities. --Flibby 23:23, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. It's still a work in progress apparently, as there are still a few things that need to be tweaked and fixed. Thanks for heads-up! –TerranRich (ETC) @ 21:15, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Player fleets[]

FAO: Rich, Lem, Bob etc... I never know who's page to post on :P

Thinking it might be nice to make a "Player Fleets" category for players using the site, and then players can make a "Fleet: My Fleet" article or something to create some information about their own fleets. Just to go with the user hub really and I thought it'd be nice to have a collection of player fleets in the wiki. Wanted to ask first before I did that though in case you wanted to keep the player information to a minimum. Cheers. --Flibby 16:43, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Honestly I am heavily against it, we had this issue on guild wars wiki, and they were allowed because it was run by the games developers and they wanted it to be a socially integrated platform with the game, however they become a huge unmanageable beast over time. People fill recent changes with minor edits to their fleet page. You get numerous fleet pages with one sentence on, tons of pointless screenshots. And trying to apply any kind of policy to them is a nightmare, for example any kind of retention time on them becomes disputed (obviously fleets come and go and no one closes the page down when they go). It causes mass arguments as more petty patrollers enforced policy strictly. They are targets for inter-fleet vandalism. On another guild wars wiki, guild wiki that exists, they ended up deleting the whole guild namespace and thousands of articles on player guilds because they became just too much trouble. In conclusion they provide little information anyone else actually gives a dam about besides a contact address for recruitment. That's just my 2 Energy credit icon though. --Lem (talk) 17:05, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
That's fine mate, I did have that social thing about my idea, but if you've got first hand experience of this idea on a wiki and are heavily against it then that's enough for me to skip the idea. Cheers for the input. --Flibby 17:10, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
My suggestion is that if people really want to do it provide some information on their own User pages :) --Lem (talk) 17:17, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I'd like to keep them all restricted to User pages. And in the future, the admins forum is just fine for stuff like this. That's why I set it up! :) –TerranRich (ETC) @ 21:17, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Aha, thanks for the link, I'll make posts there for discussion in future... sorry would have done originally but I thought this was some sort of admin only forum. --Flibby 21:23, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, I thought you were an admin. Oh well, you are now! –TerranRich (ETC) @ 21:24, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

long[]

what is the long field for in missioninfo and what criteria are you using to decide if a mission is long? --Lem (talk) 18:10, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Ignore this, being dense! :) --Lem (talk) 18:41, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Weapon Template Format[]

I read the guidelines on articles on items and edited the quantum torpedo section to try to fit in with them to the best of my understanding. Could you please check it and let me know if it's alright so I can edit the rest of the weapon pages? Thank you. - RoboRed 24 February 2010 (UTC)

RoboRed, we are currently in the middle of changing the item page formatting guidelines to a new, better layout and system. I'm going to have to revert your edit, but only because we might end up using tables like that article had before. It's nothing to do with you, we're still a growing site. :-P –TerranRich (ETC) @ 06:11, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
No problem. :) - RoboRed 24 February 2010 (UTC)
I will let you know when we finalize item linking and page formatting, which should be in the next few days. :) –TerranRich (ETC) @ 15:04, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

What you need ... images[]

I have the tools and training to teach you or someone on your team the ability to extract Icon and image data directly from the game files. Drop me a line if you're interested. I'm growing tired of all the people fighting for wiki supremacy. Prophet 14:01, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

What kind of tools are required? --Lem (talk) 14:19, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

How to Become a Liberated Borg?[]

I am really sorry I'm not one to bother people like this, but how do you get the liberated borg species, I have seen websites that say you need to have a lifetime subscription, others say that you need to have a preordered copy, and some say you need the special edition, it's just frustrating. Pat.Ril. 09:38, May 15, 2010 (UTC)

Try checking the Liberated Borg article. –TerranRich (ETC) @ 05:53, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
So I just need a lifetime subscription, no preorders or anything special?Pat.Ril. 15:41, May 17, 2010 (UTC)

STOWiki problems[]

Right now, it is not possible to use the search function or upload images to the wiki. Can you please take a look? Regards, --RachelGarrett 20:03, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
