Tribimg template[edit source]

The reason for the Template:Tribimg not working is, that the template expects there to be a file "File: Polygeminus grex [parameter] icon.png" it can use. Because, there is no file "File: Polygeminus grex cryo icon.png" it wont work for {{Tribimg|cryo}}. You need to expand the switch alternative in the template to accommodate for the new tribbles, that do not follow that naming scheme.

I admit that I don;t know the first thing about those inventory space wasters but from looking at the name of the tribble and this article:

Wouldn;t it be the image in that article? --Drmike 19:28, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Have updated the template with all tribbles not following standard naming convention. @Drmike the problem is, that the original tribbles all followed the same naming scheme and the new ones do not. Hence the template didn't work for them. --RachelGarrett 20:15, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

PCInfo[edit source]

The I in PCInfo needed to be capitalized. That's why it wasn't working. I noticed a couple of other typos and cleaned them up. No sure where 387934dc8a437b840628a63b91fec7df.png is coming from. Looks like a gravatar image name to me (they use md5 of email addresses to look up the images) but it's not recognized by them. Google'ing for that file name doesn;t return any hits either. --Drmike 18:38, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

That looks better. Be sure to add your userinfo the the Project:Hub page. --Drmike 18:45, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Tribble Breeding Chart[edit source]

Welcome to STOwiki! I wanted to thank you for some of the updates you've made. I uploaded a new Tribble Breeding Chart because the old design had gotten really cluttered, having different font and imaging styles, as well as being less straightforward by having some tribbles appear multiple times (Tuffli, Cryo, and Triolic). I went about making one that was an original work and more straightforward by showing only one tribble per species with a linear progression, but keeping the essence of the older one by listing the food names (rather than using images) and the type of tribble buff. If you have suggestions for how to improve that, please help me brainstorm areas of improvement before making a revert, especially if doing so is without comments. --Admin MatthewM 07:41, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

OK, I formatted the chart like that because I felt it fitted in with the other charts on the wiki better and it is more sleek looking than the other charts. Also it is actually a bit more informative, I tried to breed tribbles with the old STOwiki chart and it was harder than with the chart I used and uploaded. I like that you've put the foods on though. Perhaps you could get the person who creates our ship charts to jazz your chart up? Also please give me credit on your chart as I assume you took information from it--Cyrano.Jones 07:50, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
The LCARS design was kind of neat but it ultimately got way too cluttered. While information is good, I think a breeding chart doesn't need to be an encyclopedia -- adding detailed information on how to get each trouble, their 3 or 4 letter nickname, the tribbles that are obtained from devolving, and actually listing all types of food -- makes it much more of a hassle for the user. If SpiderMitch feels interested in tackling this project, that'd be good. The chart was an original work with formatting, progression sequence, and descriptions. As far as I know, all tribble breeding charts showed the food, although there were a few errors in the first month or so of STO with the correct Tier 8 breeding. --MatthewM 08:05, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
I am not wishing to start an argument, but my chart does show the food--Cyrano.Jones 08:11, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I didn't mean to say that yours didn't and I hope this doesn't come across as argumentative. I only meant that all tribble breeding charts I've seen have showed the food, including the one that you replaced here by TerranRich from April 2010 -- except in that chart it was moved off to the side as opposed to next to the tribble. --MatthewM 08:21, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
Hi there. I'm sorry, you two accidentally clashed with your charts. I was not aware that MatthewM was working on a new one, so when he PMed me in game I told Cyrano it would be great, if he could do so. I'm terribly sorry, that his work has been somewhat in vein. Sadly, this is the way thing sometimes go on a wiki, especially, if the user base is growing (as ours luckily seems to be at the moment). Please don't be discouraged. As MatthewM said, you have been doing great work and much appreciated contributions in the short time you have been here. --RachelGarrett 09:37, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Reusing Images on Site[edit source]

Hello there! I saw you are hard at work on "The Cure" walkthrough and thought it may save some time on your end (and server space here) if you did not re-upload pictures that were already in use for the same subject (e.g. the picture you uploaded here is just a smaller but otherwise identical version of this original image. Instead, please link it to the original image. --MatthewM 11:42, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Since we're on the topic, do we have a set of guidelines on images that we can/should upload? I know I just ran through the Cold series of missions and screencap'ed as i went. I was planning on uploading some. If space is that hard up, I won't. I noticed my spacedock one got replaced. I was wondering about that. --Drmike 15:25, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
Hi, Drmike. We have no storage problems, I am aware of. However, I do not have direct access to the host's webspace, so so I don't know for sure. But I do think, the guys from Curse would come my way and complain, if we were close to bringing their server down, so no worries there. Go ahead and upload your screens. Ideally, make them using demoplay and the highest detail setting like the ones here. I don't know why MatthewM edited the ESD gallery, but it was surely not for server space limitation reasons. As for guidelines, we have some over here. Regards, --RachelGarrett 16:33, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
In accordance with the guidelines mentioned above, I used a larger and higher resolution jpeg which also made it clearer where it was taken. DrMike's image was good for mentioning the new docking sequence, but I went with my gut in replacing it on the main ESD gallery with this one. Hope this explains my thought process behind it. --MatthewM 16:59, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

STF Walkthroughs[edit source]

Some people have come up with some walkthroughs for the remastered STFs that just need polish before going up. I gather you'll be busy for several weeks and I think it'd be most useful to the community to get something applicable to the Season 5 environment as soon as possible. Thoughts? --MatthewM 17:19, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

Over the next three weeks I'm going to be 'grinding' the STFs over and over again, so I can create the new gear images and create the walkthroughs. Please, be patient while I do this. --Cyrano.Jones 18:08, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
Alrighty. I'm probably going to proceed with getting these up in the next few days but I welcome any addition to the gear images (for the respective one in the sets article). As you continue to 'grind' the STFs you may find changes to the walkthroughs that would be good to include. --MatthewM 19:28, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
Oh! You've already got someone to write them for you? I was going to rewrite them, I wrote the cure and KA one's in the first place, they were some of the most viewed pages on the wiki before the names of the pages were changed. I pledged to rewrite all 3 months ago.--Cyrano.Jones 20:15, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
MatthewM, this is a plea from my heart. PLEASE let me rewrite the walkthroughs (with my original tactics and V_silverwings' notes), they're my proudest achievement on the wiki and my original cure walkthrough was featured on the home page for at least 2 months. I also have experience in the STFs, have all the STF items (special hypos, data chip etc). If you don't let me write the STF walkthroughs myself, I'll stop editing for the wiki (probably). PLEASE, the STFs are my territory on the wiki, the articles I wrote for pre-S5 using MY tactics were some of the most viewed pages on the wiki, before eyes renamed them to reflect the fact that the KDF and FEDs can now work together on the STFs. I have the experience that you don't (to my knowledge), I've chatted with other STF 'meisters' about new tactics, the STF walktroughs are my pride and joy, you've stolen my place as the tribble chart maker too. Please MatthewM, let ME write the STF walkthroughs N.B. I do understand this is a community site, but please let me do this one thing for the community. If you let me write them I'll have all the new STF stuff (except the elite gear) up by Christmas Day.--Cyrano.Jones 20:11, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
I just saw this message now. I'm glad you are proud of your achievements, but everything on the wiki is subject to change and no one owns any of it. Contributing to the community is the reward. V_Silverwings had put forth a good guide which he had ready now -- not weeks from now -- for the changed STFs but I'm sure there is room for improvement and I hope that you as well as the rest of the community will put any polish on it as needed. I already addressed the tribble chart issue several months ago on your talk page. If you would like to address any of these issues in real-time, I will be reachable on STO under @PhyrexianHero most evenings (US). --MatthewM 18:02, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
I'm sorry Cyrano, but MatthewM is right about this one. We all appreciate the work you do on the wiki, and no one wants to take anything away from you. However, we are a Wiki, and with very, very few exceptions like the front page everything is up for editing by anyone. If Silverwings and MatthewM have the time now to update the STF guides, then please accept that they act in the best interest of the Wiki and the STO community to do it now. But this also means that you are very much encouraged to contribute to that process. If you have time set aside for this over the holidays, you can built and improve upon their work. As for the tribble charts: That was an unfortunate misunderstanding. I know I caused it, and I apologized for the time you spent on that in vain. But again, the chart that is up there is good, but still there is room for improvement. If/when you come up with a better version, feel free to upload it for us to see. But please understand that I cannot and don't want to restrict access to individual pages for individual users. --RachelGarrett 23:39, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
I was asked by Cyrano on STOked's livestream to provide my notes on the STF walkthroughs and I thought since I'm inexperienced with wiki format I didn't mind handing it over to him and that I would update the information I had such that it didn't really require editing further. Sometime after I was also approached by MatthewM asking about my STF notes. I was under the wrong assumption that this was Cyrano's field to save duplication of work and so was conferring with both Cyrano and MatthewM as to how to proceed. I've had more association with MatthewM which I find very positive so accepted his offer to upload the notes and I follow it up with extensive updates based on an existing template. --V_Silverwings 00:50, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
