Help with obtaining a list of Icons[edit source]

Hello Eyes; you don't know me but I'm Jayiie from the r/stobuilds moderation team. Myself and another STO player are attempting to make an image recognition system for making build uploads easier so people only need to upload pictures of what they're using and the bot will spit out a text image. However, our problem is we lack icons to do this. I was given your name as someone who might know if it's possible to generate a complete list of icons with the appropriate name (and a link to the document its used on would be amazing, but not to get ahead of ourselves here), hopefully you can help me with this.

Thank you for your time; Jay 98.124.36.124 00:35, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

I'm not Eyes (clearly) but it might be worth prodding User:SFC and User:Damixon too, they upload most of the icons to the wiki so they might be able to help out a bit. Since most icons on the wiki are consistently named, I don't think it'd be too difficult to work from there. -RadioActivitii (talk) 08:54, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
All item icons should have same format: Name icon.png (in-game name of the item), so you could find them through Special:Search by selecting "multimedia" tab and searching "icon.png" or "console - universal", for example. You could also try Special:Export and add category name (Items, for example) - this could give you a list of pages in a specific category. I don't know any other way to do this, but maybe someone else could. --Damixon (talk) 10:16, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

Help need wrt faction colors[edit source]

Hi Eyes! I need your assistance. The default faction colors for most of the Delta Quadrant species have to be altered from the default light blue to something more fitting, e.g., light purple for the Kobali, ocre-brownish for the Kazon etc.. Thanks for your help! --Akirasensei (talk) 18:41, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Okay, I made some guesses for Kobali and Kazon colors. Let me know if any others are needed, or if you think these could use some adjustment. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 06:24, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Awesome, thank you! Following suggestions:

  • The "neutral", i.e., default faction color should be changed from light blue to grey.
  • The header of any info-sidebar is slightly too small, i.e., there is a few pixels wide, black fringe.
  • The Kazon need a slightly different brown tone, think of their skin color.
  • The Hazari and the Octanti are missing a faction template altogether, including their faction symbol. I am not sure if you can assist in this case.
  • The following factions still have the default color:

I hope you're not overwhelmed. Any help is very much appreciated :) --Akirasensei (talk) 22:35, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the week is becoming a little busy, but I promise to set aside some time in the next couple days to tackle these requests. Until then, feel free to add anything else you think of. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 18:52, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
While you're in the CSS for this, could you pls rip out the border and text-shadow properties for .epic under item rarity? It should be like .unique, unless there is a reason for those to be there. I dont want to mess with the nuts and bolts. No rush. Thanks. I'm trying to get Epic working on Item infoboxes. Tahno (talk) 19:03, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
A day later than I was hoping to do this, but everything above is now done aside from faction templates. I've never done any image extraction from the game, so I don't know about being able to help with the symbols. I could ask at work on Monday if anyone would have time to look into getting them, or perhaps I could just see if we can Cryptic to provide images if we don't have anyone who can do this. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 01:47, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
I think we have that covered. I was involved with creating the Voth faction and can do the templates and images needed. Akira please let me know if you need anything specific. I'll have a look over the templates and upload missing faction images when I get some time (I have an assignement due on Monday, and work today). Thanks for your help with this and the Epic CSS Eyes. --Tahno (talk) 05:29, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Eyes, you're awesome!!! Specifically, the Hazari and Octanti templates are missing. However, I dunno whether they do have some, or are simply labeled as neutral in the game.

There is another minor issue that caught my eyes (no pun intended): Look at Raveh II and Raveh System, for instance. They are both neutral, but the planet displays the neutral faction symbol, while the system has an "N". Generally I'd prefer the "N" to be displayed for all neutral planets AND systems. Furthermore, the outline of the infobox is always set to light blue, no matter what the faction is. The outline of the NPC infobox automatically matches the faction color. --Akirasensei (talk) 10:53, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

PS: As you see on Avrak, for instance, there are also two different kinds of neutral NPC infoboxes, one is light blue with an "N" (faction = neutral), the other one is grey with the neutral faction symbol (faction = [blank]). We should harmonize those, too, with the grey color and the "N" being displayed in either case. --Akirasensei (talk) 11:36, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Ive uploaded faction images for Hazari and Octanti. I'll look over the templates when I get a chance if no-one beats me to it. Theres a lot of 'info' templates and often changes to one dont make it into others that essentially do the same thing. Im guilty of this myself, with recent changes to {{Systeminfo}} that I still need to port over to the others. It should be fairly easy to make the planet/system ones work like the NPC one, regarding borders, and Neutral icons. --Tahno (talk) 14:56, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
Ive just uploaded faction images for APU (2 icons), Cooperative, Talaxian, Ocampa, and Bluegill and added these to {{FactionNav}}. None of these have colours yet. Theres no other faction images in the game, for some of the minor factions, that I can see. I'll look at the 'info' templates as time permits, but one thing I noticed is that the generic faction symbol (that icon) is the default when no faction is given (Faction = (blank)). Neutral (with the N icon) is treated as a faction, just like 'Federation'. I can make 'faction=(Blank)' show the N, (to get the symbol, you would then need to specifically say 'faction=generic') but Im not sure that is the best way to go, unless you are sure that an info box without a faction specified is actually Neutral, as opposed to 'Generic'. It might be better to simply add 'faction=neutral' to the ones that should display an N icon. Eyebot should be able to do this via the categories. Thoughts? --Tahno (talk) 05:28, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Well, unfortunately, the game itself provides a rather arbitrary guideline wrt "neutral" and factionless. The question is, whether the wiki, which, as an enceclopedia should try to provide information in the simplest way, should follow that bad guideline or simplify it, i.e., make "factionless" and "neutral" one and the same thing. I personally vote for the latter. --Akirasensei (talk) 12:01, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

I'm inclined to agree and have taken that approach. I have updated copies of {{Systeminfo}} and {{Planetinfo}} ready to go, in my sandbox. Im still working on {{NPCinfo}}. In the mean-time, Eyes, could you please tweak the CSS so that there is a .neutral and .neutral-info class? It should be the same as .generic and .both (I've merged them all into one in my user CSS if you're not sure what I mean). That will fix the border colour. I also still have the faction specific nav templates on my to-do list, at least for the main factions that already call them. --Tahno (talk) 17:39, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
I've added the classes for generic and neutral in with both and cross-faction today. I don't think I'll find time for more faction colors or other work today, but tomorrow is looking promising. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 18:20, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Eyes. I've updated {{Systeminfo}}, {{Planetinfo}}, and {{NPCinfo}} to exclusively use those classes for the infobox header and border (Some were using {{FactionColor}}, which was unnescessary in those cases), and made other improvements suggested here. Still looking at the faction nav and a few other 'info' templates. I think we just need colours for the new factions, when you have some time :) --Tahno (talk) 07:57, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
I've got new colors up now. I did separate colors for Pralor and Cravic, and then added APU as well, which is a kinda desaturated blend of the two. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 00:40, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Splendid work!!! The banner color for neutral planets and NPCs still appears to be light blue, though. I will also investigate how to best re-arrange the faction-navigationbar, which has become rather cluttered now. Making three rows for Alpha, Beta, and Gamma/Delta Quadrant factions might be worth a try. --Akirasensei (talk) 08:40, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

I see the problem. That last CSS selector should be '.neutral-info .missionname' (not .missioninfo). I had been overriding that locally, so they looked grey to me. I dont like messing with the CSS, so I'll leave that to Eyes. (Just wanted to note it here to save some time). --Tahno (talk) 09:41, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Oops, this is now fixed. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 11:00, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Hello! I'm not sure if this is the place to ask, but could you add faction colors for Na'kuhl and Vorgon? Also, if possible, could you adjust the Kobali color to something that fits more with their emblem (maybe something yellowish/brownish). Thank you! --PiralDorrm (talk) 18:10, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

SMW Issues[edit source]

Sorry Eyes, I know you're busy, but could you add this to your list? A recent note on Talk:Federation_playable_starship got me taking a quick look at it. I havnt had time to dig further but when I tried to dummy save Federation_playable_starship, I think it just crashes MW. (Screen goes white and doesnt return me to the page). I havnt looked at the templates yet (either the one on that page, or the info box on the ship in question). It just seems to be that one ship. The KDF page is fine (Nov Class) and Romulan one doesnt seem to list the ship. I'm more concerned with the crash at this point, and Im still figuring out SMW. --Tahno (talk) 06:00, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

The white screen like that typically indicates a timeout rather than a crash. Each web request only gets so long to complete its business with the server, and it's likely this error is causing too much overhead for the page save.
I have seen SMW pick up ghost entries in its database before, though this is a very exceptional case. Sadly, I've never found a way to remove them through the wiki front-end because they don't actually appear to be properly tied to any given page. I don't know what generates them, and I've only seen them rarely. I regret to say that we'll have to wipe the SMW database and rebuild it to resolve this, which will disrupt SMW features for probably the better part of the day. I'll talk to dev tomorrow to get things rolling. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 07:38, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
The rebuild has been completed and it appears to have resolved the issue with Solanae Dyson Science Destroyer. I'm going to start running a bot over certain categories to start resaving pages to help speed up the recaching process. If you should need to get a particular ship or duty officer to appear more quickly, you can always open and save the ship/doff page without changes and then do the same for the page where it should appear. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 00:34, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Question for admin(s)[edit source]

o/ Hello :-) Not sure where the best place would be to ask this, but thought asking an admin never hurts. :-)

I was looking for what I thought were reference pages to "roles" for the eng/sci/tac career paths, e.g.

eng/eng = Fabrication
eng/sci = Technician
eng/tac = Combat
sci/eng = Doctor
sci/sci = Researcher
sci/tac = Scientist
tac/eng = Security
tac/sci = Special Ops
tac/tac = Soldier

... but I can't seem to locate them. Am I imagining that they were on this wiki, or were they renamed/replaced/removed as not being "canon" based on STO not having "rigidly defined" roles, or... ? Just curious. :-)

P.S. Got a warning that this matched "Global AF - New spam filter", but can't figure out why.

--Mectesh (talk) 15:35, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

These days, I do mostly coding and technical help for the wiki. I haven't been able to keep up with the changes to the game lately, so I'm not clear on what these roles are myself. I'd suggest using the community discussion page.
That particular filter ended up being a bad one, causing a lot of problems over the last couple days, and we removed it this morning. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 18:52, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
Well, career paths are describer on the Career path article. As for the "roles" you listed: I am not familar with those categories. While they are not "game-canon" they do make sense wrt ground combat for the most part.--Akirasensei (talk) 17:57, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

Template Question[edit source]

If you could look at {{sw descr/Tetryon}}. I'm curious if it would be better/efficient/server usage etc etc if each weapon type (Destabilizing Tetryon, Phased Tetryon etc etc) was split to its own page instead of using the switch as it is now. Asanad (talk) 05:11, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Mouse over expansion[edit source]

I've been slowly adding mouse overs for items here and there got along way to go....but I was curious if we could expand this to abilities and traits? Asanad (talk) 05:49, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

Well seems my impatience caught up with me. The /Info does work. Just needs some sort of trait "infobox" Asanad (talk) 05:53, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

Faction colors and planet info boxes[edit source]

Hey there,

another faction color-related issue: Some planet- or system infoboxes do not display the color specified for their respective faction, e.g., Kyana System and Tholia. Thanks for any help! --Akirasensei (talk) 23:10, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

The upgrade to 1.26 is supposed to happen Tuesday night, so I think I'll wait until that's done to check this out since I will have to make adjustments then anyway. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 10:42, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, thanks for assuring a mostly smooth transition! The afore mentioned issue seems to persist, though. On a different note: Do we have control over the image-thumbnails? The update increased the margin between the image and the frame; would be great if we could revert that. --Akirasensei (talk) 15:25, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm afraid I haven't gotten to it yet. There were actually a lot of unanticipated technical problems that delayed us getting started on skin fixes, and I'm still busy with important fixes on many wikis, so I had to set this aside for now. But I will return to look at it once these other wikis are in decent shape. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 15:32, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
Sounds great, thanks so much! Also, do you know why AdBlock is not able to shift sidebars/image to were they would be without the ads? Instead there now is a blank space... I remember that this had happenend after the last wiki-update, too. --Akirasensei (talk) 15:16, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
Yes, there was a change to the ad styles that now reserves space whether the ads are blocked or not, and I'm hearing talk we may soon be adding images that adblock users will see in those spaces. I'm not sure it's definitive yet, and empty space is certainly an awkward way to start this. I'm hoping we're going to decide to remove that until we at least post something there, but I fear those may be here to stay. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 16:41, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
Until AdBlock is adapted accordingly to remove the space/image again ;) Non-invasive ad is OK, but what wikimedia is doing is simply ridiculous. --Akirasensei (talk) 22:57, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
PS: FYI, it is already easy to fully remove any remaining blank space messing up the articles: With activated AdBlock simply right-click the blank space, go to the AdBlock sub-menu (if you're using Chrome) and manually remove the "ad". This should get rid of all the lingering blank spaces on STOWiki. --Akirasensei (talk) 20:42, 6 February 2016 (UTC)
Any news? Also consider this odd case wrt to erroneous sidebar colors: Gornar. --Akirasensei (talk) 12:49, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm planning to take a look at these when I get home tonight. It looks like I'm finally done putting out brush fires from the upgrade, knock on wood, fingers crossed, all that. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 17:08, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
There was a misspelling on the Gorn one. .gorn-info .missioname instead of .gorn-info .missionname. Krenim and Tholian just hadn't made it into the styles on MediaWiki:Hydra.css yet. As for the thumbnail issues, I'm actually not sure what it was at before. It's possible my value was being overridden in 1.23, because I didn't change it. For now, I just halved the padding and hopefully that's close enough. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 04:07, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
Marvellous! Two last things: The Kobali faction symbol is oddly oversized in the infobars: Kobali Prime. And: Could you set up a bot to deleta all images uploaded by User:Tuptrek that are NOT used on any article? --Akirasensei (talk) 13:26, 11 February 2016 (UTC)

Overly large image-thumbs[edit source]

Hey again,

Would it be possible to reduce the size of the image that is being called by the "thumb"-parameter? They have recently become excessively large, which disturb the formatting of many articles. --Akirasensei (talk) 20:11, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

Any thumbnails that don't have an explicit size given fall back to the default in the user preferences (Appearance tab). As near as I can tell, there hasn't been any change in this setting in any recent version of MediaWiki, so maybe your setting was reset or changed somehow? It might be a side effect of your user name change. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 20:58, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, you're right of course. Duh... :p --Akirasensei (talk) 22:13, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

Eye Bot and moving pages[edit source]

Hi, on October 25th all kit modules will be renamed in-game. Fabrication and Mechanic -> Engineering Kit Module. Medic and Research -> Science Kit Module. Assault and Strategic -> Tactical Kit Module. This will require moving larger amount of pages on wiki so my question is if setting a Bot to do this is an option? Thank you. --Damixon (talk) 22:58, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

With a list like this:
[[frompage]]
[[topage]]
[[frompage]]
[[topage]]
...

I should be able to do it with pywikibot fairly quickly once I copy it into a text file. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 01:33, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
Great, do you have an easy way of making that list? I can copy/paste those modules from [[Category:Kit Modules]] in a format you wrote and mail it to you. --Damixon (talk) 11:28, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
It may be better if you do it, and then I can double-check it. Not much use botting this if they end up on the wrong pages. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 01:31, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Ok, list sent via wiki email message. --Damixon (talk) 04:19, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Looks like all went well. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 05:18, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Icons also need to be moved, I'll send you the new list now. --Damixon (talk) 05:30, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Sent, thanks for helping with this. --Damixon (talk) 05:41, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

Sto Wiki German[edit source]

Iam a little Bit "Overwhelmed" on work on the new "edition" the articles there linked to "/de" i mean now the de-sto Wiki, can they get there the german name or leave it where it is?

Now that they're on a separate wiki, the articles should get the German names. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 12:29, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Xindi Doff Icons[edit source]

Hi OOeyes. Now that we have the duty officer form back in its proper location, I went through all the generic doff images on STOWiki:Doff icon index to make sure they all had the {{Dofficoninfo}} template. The page included some Xindi doffs so I added those too, however their file names had to be adjusted to work with the template. I decided to adjust them so that the species part was one word (as the template expects) so they are now "Xindi-Aquatic" and "Xindi-Reptilian". There are other sub-species but those (for now) just use the unique icons.

The Doff Form simply lists the species as Xindi, which doesnt match the image species, and I have forgotten where / how the form gets its list of species. Could you please take a quick look and either update the form's species list to include those two instead of "Xindi", or remind me where that list is built (I do rememebr having once edited one more template that I still havnt found, but im not sure thats even the one).

I guess we could just make them all Xindi but they are referenced by sub-species like that in canon, and here on the wiki (Ship names, for one). Thanks. Tahno (talk) 03:53, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

That field is not limited to what's in the list. You can type in whatever you need to. And it's simply generated from whatever species values are being used, so the way to get Xindi-Aquatic and Xindi-Reptilian in there is to have at least one duty officer using them. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 17:07, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

Faction color[edit source]

Hi, can you add following faction colors to MediaWiki:Hydra.css? Thank you.

  • Na'Kuhl (710), Lukari (745ca7), Vorgon (8015ca), TOS Federation (D5CC51), Sphere Builders (663), Tzenkethi (418293) - they are already added to {{FactionColor}} template. --Damixon (talk) 18:10, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
I apologize for the long delay. This kept slipping my mind once I got home from my recovery. I think we're caught up now though. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 07:52, 19 August 2017 (UTC)

Doffsbyspecrow template‎‎[edit source]

There is a an issue seen in the {{Doffsbyspecrow}} template. Previously, case bellow normally rendered two vertical bars.

|style="width: 1em;"|{{#switch:{{{4}}}
  |Blue=<span class="rare">&#124;&#124;</span>

Now, the second &#124; isn't recognized as vertical bracket, instead it adds another row to table seen in Specialization: Advisor for example (added by {{Doffsbyspec}}). At least I interpreted it that way. Solution I found is to add <span class="rare">&#124;</span> two times in a row if I want to have two vertical brackets. Mentioning it here in case more templates are affected, or something can be done to fix it. --Damixon (talk) 15:32, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

It sounds like a parser bug, so we're probably limited to just reporting it to the MediaWiki devs. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 07:53, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
STOWiki does also have ParserPower installed. A shorter alternative might be to wrap the entire switch in {{#uesc:}} and use \! instead of &#124;. That should work around the bug. See ParserPower escape sequences and #uesc for more information. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 08:04, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
Sorry for the late reply, but use of \! also seems to trigger that bug. In the end, only thing that worked was <nowiki>||</nowiki>. --Damixon (talk) 16:34, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

Shiptypeinfo template[edit source]

Hi again. On playable ship articles, ship type is added as a category through Template:Shiptypeinfo thanks to this line: [[Category:{{{type}}}s|{{{name|{{PAGENAME}}}}}]]. This works fine, but not in case of ships like Falchion Dreadnought Warbird where there are two ship type entries. In this case it adds [[Category:Warbird/Dreadnoughts]] instead of separating it into two categories: [[Category:Warbirds]] and [[Category:Dreadnoughts]]. I unsuccessfully played around #arraymaps, and I'm not able to get [[Category:{{{type}}}s]] for both ship types. Can you maybe help with this? Thanks. --Damixon (talk) 16:34, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

I think I have it working correctly. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 14:43, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
Awesome, it works. --Damixon (talk) 16:58, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

Take a look at the mainpage please.[edit source]

Formating seems 'off' lately. --Dukedom (talk) 13:36, 24 November 2017 (UTC)

Can you be more specific? I've checked it in Firefox and Chrome and don't see any obvious problems. We are having intermittent issues affecting some users that could be responsible for certain kinds of issues. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 16:02, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
It looks normal again. When someone messaged me ingame and I checked it looked gamepedia orange and no boxes for the various content. Navbar came first then the quicklinks below that and the right side templates below the quicklinks stuff. --Dukedom (talk) 16:44, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
Noticed the same thing earlier today. --Damixon (talk) 17:37, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, there have been problems with the CSS intermittently loading only partially. I know some temporary fixes went out this morning for a related issue. Hopefully, it addressed this as well. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 03:50, 25 November 2017 (UTC)

Automated Wiki Database[edit source]

Hey, check the last discussion started on the STOWiki_talk:Community_portal#Automated_Wiki_Database, I think it is your area of expertise. --Damixon (talk) 12:38, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
