A former trader who escaped the Crateris colony attack, Artemyev participated in the defense of Republic territory from the Tholian Empire, and participated in military actions across the Delta Quadrant. During the Iconian War, he led ground assault teams to secure ships and stations across the Beta Quadrant. Artemyev was killed in the Battle of the Herald Sphere.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Early life[edit | edit source]
Artemyev was born on a cargo ship in 2376 to a pair of space truckers. His parents felt that the environment of a cargo ship was no place to raise a child, so they left him in the care of a distant relative who lived on the planet Crateris. Artemyev was ten years old when the Remans started to arrive on the planet. The following year, the Hobus supernova erupted and destroyed the Romulan star system in 2387. For the most part, life on Crateris remained undisturbed for the next twenty years. Artemyev became a fairly successful trader of goods.
[edit | edit source]
The Tal Shiar and Elachi invaded Crateris in 2409. Artemyev assisted in the evacuations and left in the last transport out. The sight of losing his home and friends prompted him to enlist in the fledging Romulan Republic navy as an Uhlan. For the next couple months, Artemyev advanced up the ranks until reaching Subcommander, and was posted to the D'Deridex-class warbird Valhaer.
Artemyev served as the Valhaer's executive officer for a year, as it participated in the foundation of New Romulus and its territories. Artemyev took command of the ship during the defense of New Romulus against the Elachi, when the commanding officer was critically wounded. Artemyev formally took command of the vessel two weeks later at the request of Admiral Kererek.
Commander of the Valhaer[edit | edit source]
The Valhaer, after spending time in drydocks undergoing repairs, set out with Artemyev as commanding officer. For the next couple months, Artemyev led his ship into battle against the Tholians. When the Solanae Dyson Sphere was discovered, Artemyev was posted to the Delta Quadrant as part of the task forces sent to defend friendly territories. Artemyev also led Reman shock troops in surface engagements against the Vaadwaur.
The Iconian War[edit | edit source]
Artemyev, his troops, and his ship were recalled to New Romulus following the appearance of the Herald Sphere. When war broke out, Artemyev once again led shock troops down to the surfaces of many worlds, assisting in colony evacuations and city defense. The Valhaer participated in numerous conflicts across the Beta Quadrant, and was damaged in an engagement with a Herald fleet.
Artemyev was ordered to take his ship and join the fleet at the Krenim research facility in the Kyana system. From there, the Alliance fleet warped to the Herald Sphere to begin the assault. Artemyev, along with his Reman shock troops, boarded an Iconian dreadnought and attempted to buy time for a hacking team to disable the dreadnought. The Herald crew closed in on them, and Artemyev's company was killed during the ensuing firefight. Artemyev himself was fatally wounded in the chest. He died holding a grenade that detonated near the Herald crew, buying time for the hacking team to complete their work.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Artemyev was posthumously awarded the Raptor's Claw, a prestigious medal awarded to Romulans with combat prowess and fighting spirit. Artemyev was formally laid to rest in November 2410 following the conclusion of the Iconian War. His grave is adorned by flowers of the many worlds whose inhabitants he had helped to evacuate.
