The following updates have been mentioned by the developers and not retracted since then, yet over 12 months have gone by since they were last mentioned.

Undetermined Release[edit | edit source]

  • Getting more voice acting in the game (for existing and new missions); DStahl & Al Rivera specifically mentioned the following Star Trek actors:[1][2]
  • Revamp of remaining un-revamped episodes.[4][5]
  • New playable factions,[2] e.g. Cardassian.
    • Return to Cardassian story would most likely be to launch a Cardassian faction with a story that players could experience for themselves.[6]
  • Fundamental revamp of “State of Q”, possibly copy-pasting Avery Brooks' voice for Benjamin Sisko from DS9: "Emissary" and, ideally, featuring John de Lancie as Q. To be re-introduced as stand-alone mission at some future point of time.[4]

Foundry improvements[edit | edit source]

(Many major improvements to be ported over from Cryptic's game Neverwinter.)[1][7] As of April 2019, the Foundry was removed from the game, so anything in this section might not be relevant anymore.

  • Original plan - "First half of 2014":[8]
    • Ability to create a "campaign/arc", i.e. a sorted string of several foundry missions.[8][9][10]
    • Ability to subscribe to specific Foundry authors.[8][10]
  • New assets.[1][7][8]
    • Interior editor.[1][11]
    • Ability to prepopulate maps with prefab detail object layouts.[11]
  • "My Favorites" tab for Foundry missions.[12]
  • Older plan: Foundry faction in Reputation System.[8][13]
  • Remastering (e.g. cutscenes) and incorporating the best Foundry missions into the hard code of the game as part of the official storyline; possibly replacing some of the less-popular Cryptic missions.[14]

Revamp of PvP system[edit | edit source]

PvP is not a priority in STO, but small-scale updates will happen here and there.[3][5][15][16][17][18]

  • Triple HP/Shield buff on PvP maps to prevent "sudden death" scenarios.[5]
  • Either replacing current PvP maps or revamping them.[19]
    • Transferring existing PvE maps (Facility 4028 among others) to ground PvP maps, possibly with capture-the-flag mod.[10][14]
    • "King of the Hill" PvP map for space and/or ground.[14][20]
    • Ground combat may have Battleground-style development in the long term.[21]
  • Old ideas: Rewards based on participation more than completion,[22] PvP ratings/leaderboard tech is now available [21][23][24][25]

Other[edit | edit source]

  • Expansion of Duty Officer system.[1]
    • Likely including re-release of the Tuffli Class Freighter.
    • Duty officer assignment cooldowns listed (possibly Season 9).[12]
    • Possible: Duty officer commendation Tier V categories added (requirement is above the 150,000 CXP cap).[26][27]
  • More mini-games.
    • "[...] entirely new mini-games that tie directly into your career".[28]
    • Poker (dependent on developer free-time; very unlikely in short term as of July 2012).[29][30][31]
  • Long-term goal of Reputation System: KDF/FED/ROM-specific reputation factions that function as voting system in which the players decide which project to fund, thereby influencing the general direction of their whole faction (e.g. which fleet ships are going to be released next).[18]
  • Update of Accolade system,[32] including more challenges and rewards [11][23]
  • Improved UI of Exchange.[7][9][16][33]
  • Animated Andorian antennae.[32][34][35]
  • Department Heads and Off-Duty revamps are on hold as of October 2012.[36]
    • First Officer system is not on schedule as of December 2012, but may be revisited with rank cap increase to full Admiral.[37]
      • Convert First Officer to playable Captain and vice-versa.[20]
        • This would allow for Breen (FE Reward) and full Borg (TFO Reward) playable species.[38]
        • Converting Android bridge officers (such as veteran reward ones) will not be possible (vetoed by CBS).[35]
    • Bridge officers who are put in as First Officer, Chief Engineer, Chief Medical Officer, etc. gain some new abilities/perks.[39][40][41][42][43]
      • Department Heads and First Officer will leverage Expertise and can be individually augmented by Duty Officers of their respective departments.[44]
      • First Officers will grant additional lower-level Captain powers depending on their respective specialization.[45][46]
      • First Officers will occupy a special, additional bridge station. This may be closer to increasing the skill cap to Admiral.[36]
  • Ability to warp to a friend.[20]
  • Last remaining canon Federation ships will come, including new designs that may not have a unique console.[6]
  • Tier 5 Merian-class escort (image).[48]
  • Customize fleet starbase and ship exteriors/interiors in Foundry.[20][34][49]
  • More Klingon hairstyle options (C-Store). [September 9, 2011][50]
  • Sol/Qo'noS System daily missions, possibly rewarding including "Red Squad" (and elite Klingon academy) cadet costumes. [July 3, 2011][19][20][40]
  • C-Store with tangible merchandise. [July 3, 2011][40]
  • Melee combat improvements [July 3, 2011]:[40][51]
  • 2409 ships like Excalibur, originally designed by Perpetual Entertainment. [June 10, 2011][52]
  • Single player or co-op versions of ground TFOs.[16]
  • Possibly more uniform options for Breen and Reman bridge officers.[35]
  • Different species' combadges (not on schedule as of July 2012).[29][53][54]
    • Human (United Earth)
    • Vulcan (Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations)
    • Andorian
    • Other races (Saurian, Ferengi, liberated Borg, Pakled, Rigelian, and Tellarite)
  • "Children of Khan" feature episode series (not on schedule).[38][55]
  • Ability to gain Commendation XP via gameplay types other than the DOff system.[56]
  • A form of encyclopedia for all information presented thus far. [June 7, 2011][57]
  • Bridge Officer Requisition "Exchange" showing skills learned.[23][58]
  • Ship crew uniforms for officers onboard your vessel.[23][38]
  • Range of new and different alien ships from patrols and cluster missions. [June 7, 2011][57]
  • 100-day Veteran Rewards for KDF. [June 7, 2011][57]
  • Expanded Ensign bridge officer powersets and exclusive abilities. [December 2, 2010][59]
  • Remaining preorder items made available to C-Store. [February 8, 2011][60]
  • Ship interior functionality:[20][61]
    • Holodeck (as well as in starbases and Quark's)[23][58]
    • Working sickbay [January 7, 2011][31]
    • Botanical Garden [February 10, 2011][58]
  • Possibility of allowing players to customize geometry and texture of weapons. [April 8, 2011][62]
  • "Leaving Shipdock" cutscene sequences when getting new ships. [May 6, 2011][38]
