Template talk:Traitheader

After trying to clear out missing images I noticed something isn't quite right about this. sometimes if icon itself is not there it works and other times it doesn't work. Trait:_Medical_Vanguard is an example of the icon being there yet still showing up in the hidden Category:Articles with missing icons. Trait:_Firearms_Specialist wouldn't even show its icon until I put in the non default icon=Firearms Specialist of course others such as Trait:_Accurate works just fine. Not sure what the difference is yet have to play around with it some other time. Asanad (talk) 19:06, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Looks like just a caching issue. Try resaving the actual pages that are appearing in the category incorrectly and vice versa. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 05:21, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
Will give that a try tomorrow. Asanad (talk) 10:59, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
So much for tomorrow =P. That fixed the problem. I'm curious is there a script of some sort server side that refreshes the a page cache (if so how often does it run) or is this something that has to be done manually like just now? Asanad (talk) 11:10, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
Well, the way it's supposed to go is that it happens automatically. MediaWiki keeps track of which pages are using/looking for which images and templates, and when they get changed, uploaded, or deleted, the pages get put into a job cache to be regenerated, and some of those are done every time someone loads a page. The catch here is we're using Semantic MediaWiki for traits, and it's too complex to properly keep track of every change that should result in another page being regenerated, meaning there's some cases where it has to be manually kicked by resaving a page. Later, maybe, I can try tweaking the template to see if I can get it to properly track the images so that it'll update automatically, but unfortunately, I'm pretty backlogged at the moment. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig.png 21:02, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
I gotcha. I'm familiar with back end administration and about being backlogged =P. Thanks for the information. Asanad (talk) 01:09, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Mastery trait icons[edit source]

Could someone modify this template so it can also accept icons without icon suffix in its name? For example, Mastery trait preferential targeting.png - by adding new parameter "icon3", or something like that? Currently only icons with NAME icon.png are accepted. --Damixon (talk) 10:35, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

I created Template:Masteryicon‎ which should be used instead of this template for starship mastery trait articles. Reason is I didn't know how to update this template to show icons without icon suffix in their name (without breaking other articles), which required same icon to be uploaded two times (or redirected to correct name). --Damixon (talk) 22:31, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

First line[edit source]

Is it possible to change the first line to include environment or type?

"Trait Name is an in-game character trait" is not that informative.

Something like:

Ablative Field Projector is a Starship Mastery trait.

A Good Day to Die is a character Space trait.

Active Armor Hardening is a character Ground trait.

Aggressive/Boff is a bridge officer Ground trait.

Arkhain (talk) 14:06, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Good idea, done for space and ground traits. For Starship Mastery traits, I didn't know how to add new unique description make an icon to appear in case the icon doesn't have usual naming format like other trait icons, so I made a separate template {{Masteryicon}} (expalined in Mastery trait icons section above), but it would be great if it can be done through this template. --Damixon (talk) 14:28, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
I added type after enviro, so now it's "Ablative Field Projector is a player character space mastery trait." Added bonus of affixing "reputation" to those traits, too.
Now, is there a good way to separate the ability-granting traits, from Reputation V? They also have their own category in the trait loadout so that seems pretty note-worthy.
Maybe also add a note for the ability-granting traits like Mind Meld and such.

We could add another line below the icon, with Icon-warning-22x22.png or Icon-information-22x22.png before the sentence to make it more visible? --Damixon (talk) 22:18, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
I added another category, "active", so it reads "Medical Nanite Cloud is a player character ground reputation active trait." It might be getting a little wordy, but I think the first line 'should' have all that information. Do you think it's an issue? Arkhain (talk) 01:41, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
