Getting started[edit source]

I really like that we're getting this project started! This can be a wonderful addition to STO Wiki - especially by highlighting lesser known articles. There are still some formal aspects we need to decide on. Like how long a featured article will stay featured (likely a month?). How will featured articles be marked (graphic, box?). Also will there be categories (like "good article", "featured article"). Or whether or not featured images can come from featured articles. And of course you need to figure out how to display them on the mainpage. -- Backyardserenade 14:43, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for pushing this project forward. Now that it has started I do not have a clear idea how to implement criteria, how to make it work. Pertaining the main page: Featuring such content there can be done by one of the admins once we've developed a modus operandi. And about the duration: One month may be two long - what about two/three weeks? -- Markonian 17:38, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Two weeks sounds good as well. If we have enough articles and pictures to keep up with that. -- Backyardserenade 21:24, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Article selection[edit source]

I've added some articles to the list. And split it for convenience sake - I think that topics should rotate, so that there aren't for example three featured walkthroughs or character descriptions in a row. I hope the categories make sense.

I've mostly added some articles I worked on. They tend to stay on your mind. However, I do believe that articles like Spock or U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701) are examples of well-edited, informative and thorough articles. Albeit, of course, they are backed up by canon information. Maybe Sokketh could be another candidate? -- Backyardserenade 14:43, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, Sokketh, why not. However, I'd rather not promote articles about non-ingame objects just now because it may inspire people to include info that doesn't come the preferred sources (STO game, STO website, "The Needs of the Many"), Imho. -- Markonian 17:38, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Get that, of course. Still Spock or TOS Enterprise should be legit, since they do appear ingame. Plus the articles only cover some very basic non-game information. In that regard they actually might be some good examples for similar topics. Of course they might need to be watched, once there's a lot more attention on them through the featured article system. -- Backyardserenade 21:25, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Featured images[edit source]

I've also splitted the images into "Screenshots" and "Info Graphics". Makes sense to me. However, I doubt that it makes sense to have a quota with pictures. Rather, we should simply make sure to include an info graphic from time to time. -- Backyardserenade 14:43, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Agreed. There are a lot of nice screenshots and graphics, so I'd say we could have a main page section "Picture of the Day". -- Markonian 17:38, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Again, I'm wondering if there are enough pictures to feature a new one every day? Maybe we should start off with "Picture of the Week"? Or even two, three weeks as with the articles. WHile there are many good pictures, I don't know if there are enough outstanding ones - and that's what featured stuff should be about, right? I actually had some difficulties finding really special images. Though I guess there are still some hidden gems somewhere. -- Backyardserenade 21:24, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Marking articles[edit source]

I've also created some concepts for marking featured articles and nominees. Tell me what you think! -- Backyardserenade 21:24, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Inactivity?[edit source]

This page hasn't been edited in almost 2 years. I think featuring exceptional content is a great idea, and perhaps we should bring this back. - Mitchz95 04:04, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
