Overview[ | ]
The Somerville-class Intel Science Vessel is a design for the core of Starfleet's values. This vessel is equipped for exploration, scientific missions, and information gathering. However, the realities of a dangerous galaxy also require this vessel to be a combat capable vessel, and as such this vessel features powerful defensive shielding, a standard Starfleet compliment of ship weaponry, and powerful deflector dishes to literally manipulate the battlefield as needed.

SKIN UNLOCK: Free Originally designed by IDW Publishing artist Angel Hernandez for the Star Trek Discovery Annual 2018 comic, the Hernandez-class takes inspiration from both the Shepard class and Walker class vessels created for Discovery, sharing a similar hull and deflector dish style to these vessels. The Hernandez is a 23rd century science vessel, active during the 2250s. | |
SKIN UNLOCK: Free with this starship The Somerville-class Science Vessel is named for the U.S.S. Somerville, the ship first responsible for discovering Prototaxites stellaviatori in the 2250s. Abilities[ | ]
Universal consoles[ | ]
The Somerville Intel Science Vessel comes equipped with the [Console - Universal - Mycelial Spore Burst].
Specialization seating
The Somerville-class Intel Science Vessel features the following specialist seats:
- Commander Science/Intelligence
- Lieutenant Universal/Intelligence
Active Sensor Arrays
As an Intelligence starship, the Somerville Intel Science Vessel is capable of deploying an Intel sensor drone with the Gather Intelligence ability.
While the target is Vulnerable, one of three Expose Vulnerability abilities can be used. These powerful abilities find a critical weakness in the targeted foe and allow players to briefly exploit it.
- Expose Vulnerability: Critical Systems
- Expose Vulnerability: Defenses
- Expose Vulnerability: Weapon Systems
Intelligence vessels also have a built-in passive ability which renders them undetectable at long range.
Cloak
The Somerville-class Intel Science Vessel has a cloak that allows the ship to cloak when not in combat, granting stealth and a damage bonus upon decloaking.
Sensor Analysis[]
Sensor Analysis is an active toggle ability. While maintaining a Sensor Lock on a target, the player gains a stacking effect that either improves the damage and power drain against an enemy, or improves any heal directed towards an ally. This effect stacks every 3 seconds, to a maximum of 6 stacks after 18 continuous seconds. To maintain the desired effect, the player must hold the sensor lock.
Subsystem Targeting[]
The Somerville-class Intel Science Vessel comes with built-in Subsystem Targeting abilities. These built-in abilities stay at Rank I and do not automatically rank up when acquiring higher tier Science starships. They are separate from Subsystem Targeting abilities gained through Tactical Space Bridge officer abilities.
- Target Auxiliary Subsystems I
- Target Weapons Subsystems I
- Target Engines Subsystems I
- Target Shields Subsystems I
Activating a subsystem targeting ability will upgrade all energy weapons to inflict a stacking power drain on the foe's targeted subsystem for the next 10 seconds. They will also have a small chance to knock the targeted subsystem offline for a short duration.
Standard configuration[ | ]

Hull strength[]
This table shows how the ship's hull strength scales at each level. The base hull of all scaling starships is 10,000, which is then multiplied by the ship's hull modifier (0.85 for the Somerville-class Intel Science Vessel), and then multiplied by the scaling multiplier below at each level.

Notes[ | ]
- The Somerville and Hernandez-classes are collaborations with IDW Publishing. The Hernandez is presumably named for the illustrator of the comic, Angel Hernandez, and/or Erika Hernandez, captain of Columbia (NX-02).[1]
- The Hernandez first appeared in IDW's Star Trek: Discovery Annual 2018.
- The model was revamped in 2021 as part of Season Twenty-four: Reflections and was given access to the new Type 7A hull material type.
