Hello there![edit source]

I look forward to the beta download to finish, and get started in the game. I'll contribute as often as I can. -- Rohar (talk|contribs) 01:02, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

NDA Lifted?[edit source]

Now that open beta has started, has the public NDA been lifted so that details from the game directly may be posted here?

Theqmann 03:28, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

The first article on the Main Page suggests that we not post details during open beta. My interpretation is to collect data, and prepare articles, but don't post until you can verify things are in the final release. -- Rohar (talk|contribs) 13:42, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Open Beta Content[edit source]

I realize I am new to this wiki, but a thought occurred to me as I was driving into work this morning. Theqmann brings up a good point regarding the posting of open beta content.

I certainly realize that there is, and will be, a tremendous amount of changes being made through the beta phase to open release. However, a vast majority of the content and cannon will likely not change much. Waiting for the full release will certainly delay the amount of content available to this wiki. If we would allow open beta content, it will do two things.

  1. Assist STO beta players while playing the game, as they'll have those articles to reference.
  2. Give this wiki a huge head start on articles after the official release date.

I suggest that we consider creating a [[Category:Open Beta content]] and a {{Template:Open Beta Content}} disclaimer. This could allow content to be posted with the standard that all articles be posted with the disclaimer template and added to Category:Open Beta content (as well as any other pertinent categories). Once the production product is released it would allow the entire community to become involved in verifying the accuracy of the open beta content. If the STO wiki community is like other popular MMO wikis I'm been involved in the past, we can virtually count on one or two individuals simply driving through the Category:Open Beta content page to verify information, and clear the tags, once content is verified.

Thoughts?

This is an excellent idea, Rohar. I just played the open beta this morning and I agree with you 100%. We'll get started on a simple template disclaimer for open beta content, and I will change the front page announcement. - TerranRich 18:49, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, Rich!! Glad I can help. I've been in your shoes before, and have helped develop other wikis. If you don't mind, I intend to continue to offer suggestions for STOWiki to consider.
