Template:Redirect Raiders are a type of starship. The term raider generally refers to a Bird-of-Prey, but there are other exceptions. The Bird-of-Prey is a long standing Klingon design dating back to the 22nd century. It serves as a scout, patrol and reconnaissance ship although has excellent capabilities as a hit-and-run warship. It is available from tiers 1 through 6, to players of the Klingon Empire. The Bird-of-Prey is the first ship that players of this faction will be given (the B'Rel class). These ships are extremely manuverable by design and can out maneuver any Federation starship at any tier. It is an ideal ship for fighting in groups of more than one due to its high maneuverability and allows players fighting together to constantly be in a flank position of an enemy, therefore vastly reducing their ability to regulate their shields and protect their hull.

All Klingon raiders have 2 device slots and gain a bonus +15 weapons power.

As a general rule, Raiders receive a flanking bonus when attacking an enemy's rear arc. The severity of this damage bonus depends on the ship, and can range from +25% damage to +33% damage. This damage bonus stacks with the Intelligence Specialization flanking damage and critical bonus.

Klingon Raiders[edit | edit source]

Tier 1[edit | edit source]

B'rel Bird-of-Prey[edit | edit source]

B'rel class

The B'rel class Bird-of-Prey is the first ship that any player of the Klingon Empire will use. It's a very maneuverable starship, easily outdoing the Light Cruiser in comparison to the Federation. It has the standard Bird-of-Prey model although with some interesting features. The wings of the ship have a feathered wing pattern on them to mimic a bird. The main hull has a dual ridged dorsal section with a neck leading off to the bridge.

B'Rotlh Bird-of-Prey[edit | edit source]
B'R'otlh class

The B'Rotlh Bird-of-Prey is a refit version of the standard B'rel Bird-of-Prey available to a new player of the Klingon Empire. It's a very maneuverable starship, easily outdoing the Light Cruiser in comparison to the Federation. The B'Rotlh is a much more modern variant of the classic B'rel design, featuring a lower-pitched head section, a beefed up engineering section and wings that fold forward more than the original.

Tier 2[edit | edit source]

QulDun Bird-of-Prey[edit | edit source]

QulDun class

The QulDun Bird-of-Prey is slightly different to the first model that players experience. Although using a classic Klingon design for the starship, it features no feathered wing pattern on its wings. The bridge section of the hull is more pointed and not as big as the B'rel. The main hull is also slightly larger. Although it features one less point into it's turn rate than the B'rel and the B'Rolth, this is not noticeable and the ship still maneuvers extremely well. The ship benefits from an extra forward weapon and tactical console slot, and is capable of housing one universal Lieutenant station.

Qaw'Dun Bird-of-Prey[edit | edit source]
Qaw'Dun class

The Qaw'Dun class is significantly different to its QulDun counterpart, featuring wings that are heavily centred forward, a head section that noses down slightly more and an engineering section that features a long sweeping dorsal plating that stretches half way through the neck to the head section. Although it features one less point into it's turn rate than the B'rel and the B'Rotlh, this is not noticeable and the ship still maneuvers extremely well. The ship benefits from an extra forward weapon and tactical console slot, and is capable of housing two universal Lieutenant stations.

Tier 3[edit | edit source]

Norgh Bird-of-Prey[edit | edit source]

Norgh class

The Norgh Bird-of-Prey aesthetically is very similar to the QulDun however features a much wider wing arc and an elongated bridge section. The ship is an average upgrade to the QulDun. It has primarily one Lt Commander Bridge Officer slot, one extra aft weapon slot and an extra Engineering console slot. The extra Engineering slot however can be very beneficial as it allows players to increase damage output or survivability.

Ning'tao Bird-of-Prey[edit | edit source]
Ning'tao class

The Ning'tao class commands a unique wingspan along with traditional curves of previous Bird-Of-Prey vessels, with the most noticable feature being the extra wings firmly constructed onto the upper wings. It has primarily one Lt Commander Bridge Officer slot, an upgraded Universal Bridge Officer slot (from Ensign to Lieutenant), one extra aft weapon slot and extra Engineering and Science console slots. Both the Engineering and Science slots however can both be very beneficial as they allow players to increase damage output or survivability.

Tier 4[edit | edit source]

Ki'tang Bird-of-Prey[edit | edit source]

Ki'tang class

The Ki'tang is the Captain Tier (4) Bird-of-Prey available to Klingon Empire players. It has a much more narrow wing-span than the lower models. It regains its feathered wing design which was not seen since the B'rel. The ship is a decent upgrade over the Norgh. It has more hull strength and is the first Bird-of-Prey to carry a Commander level Bridge Officer, but it has a slightly worse turn rate and no additional weapon slots although the extra tactical console slot can help. This ship's default equipment is only Commander level, and it is recommended players replace these items immediately.

Ch'Tang Bird-of-Prey[edit | edit source]
Ch'Tang class

The Ch'Tang is the upgraded Captain Tier (4) Bird-of-Prey available to Klingon Empire players. The Ch'tang variant has a very staggered wingspan and foreign hull extremities. This Bird-Of-Prey design was clearly influenced by engineers of the KDF's allies. The ship is a good upgrade over the Norgh. It has more hull strength and is the first Bird-of-Prey to carry a Commander level Bridge Officer and three Lieutenant level Bridge Officer slots, but it has a slightly worse turn rate and no additional weapon slots although the extra Tactical and Science console slots can help. This ship's default equipment is only Commander level, and it is recommended players replace these items immediately.

Tier 5[edit | edit source]

Hegh'ta Heavy Bird-of-Prey[edit | edit source]

Hegh'ta class

The Hegh'ta is available at the General rank. It is also the largest Bird-of-Prey in the game, being slightly larger than the HoH'SuS Bird-of-Prey. However, due to its huge turn rate and the fact it has universal bridge stations it still is a very competent ship. Its design and features resemble that of the Ki'tang, the only major differences being the more out-spread wings and extra weapon slot mounted on the underside of the vessel.

B'rel Bird-of-Prey Retrofit[edit | edit source]

B'rel class

A B'rel class Retrofit is a heavily modified variant of the B'rel Bird-of-Prey. The Klingon Defense Force upgraded this variant with the latest acquired technology seized by the Empire in the early 25th century, as well as utilizing an old Klingon-developed Enhanced Battle Cloaking device once utilised by General Chang to overthrow the Khitomer Conference in 2293. This ship has the highest base turn rate of any Tier 5 ship in the game.

HoH'SuS Bird-of-Prey[edit | edit source]

HoH'SuS class

The HoH'SuS Bird-of-Prey is a Raider specifically designed to compliment the Bortasqu' War Cruiser and its respective varients. This vessel is capable of running independently or in packs with other Birds-of-Prey as well however, allowing it to perform both functions simultaneously. This is a playable version of the HoH'SuS Bird-of-Prey that comes with the Bortasqu' War Cruiser. Unlike the non-player version, it does not come with Disruptor Quad Cannons or the Console - Universal - Subspace Jumper. This ships design is as large as the Hegh'ta and finishes a strong and bulky central hull designed from Fore to Aft. The ships' wings however have a skeletal-like design, and bend outward mid-wing to a much beefier end-plate to compliment the main cannons.

Fleet HoH'SuS Bird-of-Prey[edit | edit source]

Mirror Universe Ki'tang Bird-of-Prey Retrofit[edit | edit source]

Mirror Ki'tang

A variant of the Ki'tang bird-of-prey from the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance of the Mirror Universe.

Fleet Norgh Bird-of-Prey Retrofit[edit | edit source]

Norgh class

The Fleet Norgh Retrofit is a heavily modified variant of the Norgh Bird-of-Prey. The Klingon Defense Force upgraded this variant with the latest acquired technology seized by the Empire in the early 25th century. This ship includes the ability of slotting two Lt. Commander Universal slots, making it the only ship in the game with this ability. As a result, the ship does not come with a 10th console slot, but does possess increased Hull and Shield strength.

Tier 6[edit | edit source]

Kor Bird-of-Prey[edit | edit source]

Kor class

This is the Tier Six version of the B'rel Retrofit, and features four Tactical console slots, and a seating layout that includes a hybrid Lt. Cdr/Pilot universal slot in place of the first Lt. seat. The Starship Mastery trait for the Kor is the same as for the Tier Six version of the Defiant, and features an extended duration for Cannon: Scatter Volley. Like it's predecessor, the Kor has a Fleet version that does not include the fifth Mastery trait, but does include a fourth Engineering console slot. As of the beginning of 2016, the Kor is the ONLY tier six Bird of Prey available to KDF players, and costs 3000 zen to acquire from the C-store. The Fleet version may be purchased with fleet modules, and prior owners that bought the C-store version may purchase the fleet version with 1 fleet module.

Fleet B'rel Bird-of-Prey (T6)[edit | edit source]
Tier 6 B'rel

An enhanced version of the Kor with an extra Engineering console.

Kelvin Timeline D4x Pilot Bird-of-Prey[edit | edit source]

D4x class

The Klingons of the Kelvin Timeline were inspired by the tenacious D4 fighter when they designed this Bird-of-Prey. Incredibly nimble and armed for heavy combat, the D4x is a force to be reckoned with across two realities. A battle-cloak adds to the threat of this fearsome vessel.

Pilot vessels are highly agile craft designed to perform advanced Pilot Maneuvers that can give them a deadly edge in combat. Gets a power bonus of +15 Weapons and +5 Engines.

Cross-Faction Raiders[edit | edit source]

Tier 5[edit | edit source]

Breen Plesh Brek Heavy Raider[edit | edit source]

Plesh Brek class

The Breen Plesh Brek Heavy Raider is a Breen light ship and a fearsome and maneuverable craft that was most commonly seen during the Breen invasion of Defera space. It is sturdier and faster than similar ships within the Raider class of starships. However, unlike Klingon Raiders, it does not have the ability to Cloak.

Kazon Heavy Raider[edit | edit source]

Plesh Brek class

Though technologically outdated, the Kazon Raider poses a dire threat to larger and more powerful vessels due to its agility and firepower. A constant thorn in the side of Delta Quadrant forces, this ship projects the brutal arm of the Kazon to distant parts of the galaxy.

Tier 6[edit | edit source]

Herald Baltim Heavy Raider[edit | edit source]

Baltim Heavy Raider

Extremely agile and powerful, the Baltim Raider forms the bulk of the Iconian fleet's lightning strike forces. Possessing overwhelming firepower and the ability to teleport behind enemy lines, this Raider poses a significant threat to anybody in its crosshairs.

Na'kuhl Tadaari Raider[edit | edit source]

Na'kuhl Tadaari Raider

Na'kuhl ships are known for their speed, agility and ability to cloak. No ship in the Na'kuhl fleet represents this better than the Tadaari Raider. These Raiders employ hit and run tactics by combing their incredible speed and Battle Cloaking technology. This ship has a battle cloak.

Ouroboros Temporal Raider[edit | edit source]

Ouroboros class

The Ouroboros Raider from the future puts fear into the hearts of her enemies. An Ouroboros brings potent weaponry and tactical systems to the fight in whatever era she's deployed in, making the raider a valuable asset in the Temporal Cold War. Has access to Molecular Reconstruction.

Performance[edit | edit source]

Most Birds-of-Prey carry battle cloaking technology allowing them to cloak their ship and enter a hidden state during battle. This provides a significant tactical advantage for the player. As a counter, the Federation Science vessels can detect cloaked ships up to a certain distance so it must be used cautiously as whilst cloaked the Bird-of-Prey has no shields. This also counts for when the player cloaks, as the ship must drop its shields to cloak. If a Federation player fires a torpedo at the Bird-of-Prey when they begin to enter a cloaked state the torpedo will hit the hull directly and cause massive damage to the ship.

This ship line tends to have weaker hulls than most ships, though they are very flexible when it comes to Bridge Officers as they have universal positions rather than dedicated set officer types like most and other ships of the Klingon Empire, and most ships of all other factions. This allows the player more versatility when it comes to deciding their officers and helps fit their play styles easier. The universal seating does carry a price, however: there are fewer bridge officers overall compared to a Raptor, or non-Bird-of-Prey Raider of the same tier, which translates into having fewer Bridge Officer traits (such as Pirate, Romulan Operative, Subterfuge, etc.)

Shield percentages are also among the lowest in the game for any vessel, and there is only a single Bird-of-Prey at Tier 6 (two if you count the Fleet version), with little to no chance of more in the works at this time (KDF is unprofitable according to Lead Developer Al Rivera.)

Among players, the Bird of Prey is seen mostly as a 'role player's' vessel due to it's poor configuration for the dominant DPS-driven metagame, which relies on Beam Fire at Will or massive Particle-Gen boosted Science attacks (both are Area of Effect that generate high 'threat' numbers, meaning you draw lots and lots of fire on what amounts to the least inherently durable ship in the game.)

Unlike other 'transfer type' vessels (Federation Carriers and BattleCruisers), the Federation equivalent of the Bird of Prey did not sell well, and is not popular with Federation players, thus it is unlikely for further development of Raider types to be pursued by Cryptic, including Bird of Prey development.
