Optimizing Your Ship
|Timeline Change Imminent!|
This article contains information that no longer applies to the current version of Star Trek Online. It is provided only for historical purposes.
Welcome to the advanced guide for optimizing ship builds. This is not intended to be the end-all for ship/skill configuration suggestions, but should be enough to get from <2k DPS to >4k DPS, even with Mk XI green gear. In many cases there may be multiple options or alternatives not covered here. For more thorough suggestions, ask your fleet members or consult the Forums.

Basics[edit | edit source]
Doing just these four things will significantly improve your damage.
- Focus on one energy type
- Run 100 base in weapon power
- Stay close to your target
- Listen to your teamates
Determining your damage[edit | edit source]
Before changing anything, it is important to understand how well your ship is working today. To do this, it is imperative to run a combat parser. Download ACT from here. Download the Hilbert STO plugin here. Setup your combat parser. Make sure you select the DPS column in the window - the graph below will now show DPS.
A good place to get a feel for your DPS is to do Infected Space Elite. Watch your damage during the initial borg patrol fight, as well as overall for the whole STF. A good goal is to average at least 3K DPS.

Setup a tab just for team chat. Change team chat channel when entering a new team. Send a hello to check for others paying attention. Ask for help before it is too late. (enter to jump to chat window)
Keybinds[edit | edit source]
Keybinds are a critical part of keeping your DPS up and making sure you are resistant to the maximum amount of damage.

Tweaks[edit | edit source]
Dying too much[edit | edit source]
Need more damage[edit | edit source]
Use a Weapons Battery along with the DOFF from the Junior Officer Appreciation Week. Make sure youre weapons power is at maximum.
Healing teamates[edit | edit source]
Add a Transfer Shield Strength, Aux2SIF or Hazard Emitters to your build. Before using these abilities, switch to max Aux power and/or use a Red Matter Capacitor or an Auxiliary Battery to improve the heal amount. Engineers can use Extend Shields. Before using Extend Shields, use Emergency Power to Shields, Aux2Batt, EPS Power Transfer, or a Shield battery to boost your Shield power level. Higher shields will increase the effectiveness of Extend Shields.
On the yearning for DPS and what really is the point of this game[edit | edit source]
Above all, remember this is a game, the primary purpose is to have fun. Chasing DPS can be part of that fun, but try to keep it within reason. If you see someone in a mission with subpar DPS, be sure to offer help, not discourage them by making fun of them.
