The Mercury Class Pilot Escort is a Vice Admiral (Tier 6) level Federation Escort. Players can obtain the vessel from the C-Store for 3000 Zen small icon.png individually, 6000 Zen small icon.png for a Federation Only Bundle, or 12,000 Zen small icon.png for a cross-faction Mega-Bundle.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The dramatic flight maneuvers of groups such as Red Squadron have always been a place for pilots at Starfleet Academy to show off their skills, but dramatic maneuvers and quick changes in position aren't always possible at the helm of a massive starship. To find a balance between speed and firepower, a ship design team at Utopia Planitia has created a line of starships for pilot commanders. These small, nimble ships have the power needed to take on even the mighty Heralds, but the speed needed to escape danger in an instant.

The Mercury class features a split hull, with the deflector sandwiched between two forked points in the bow. Its wings are shorter and lack curves, preventing them from being sheared off while executing complex flight patterns.

Like the rest of the Pilot Escort line, the ship's warp nacelles are housed internally, with the requisite Bussard ramscoops located on the upper surface of the ship. Powerful impulse engines are mounted in a ring around the hull, sliding back in combat to expose the vessel's microprojectile launchers. Special "redline" maneuvering thrusters are mounted at strategic points on the hull, allowing this unusual design to perform extreme feats of mobility that would tear apart a more orthodox vessel.

This vessel comes with the Mercury-class costume. It can utilize the Pilot bridge officer powers and other abilities described below.

Ajax-class
The Ajax-class features a cropped forward hull, and is thus the shortest of the Pilot Escorts. Four coolant conduits extend out from the bow and loop back into the hull. The ship's wings curve slightly downward.

Icarus-class
The Icarus-class is the longest of the Pilot Escort variants, thanks to its extended central deflector housing, which protrudes slightly past the leading edge of the main hull to form a "nose". Rounded wings extend from the sides of the hull, giving the Icarus a more aerodynamic appearance.

The Icarus class skin is unlocked with the purchase of the Icarus Class Pilot Escort for 3000 Zen small icon.png.

Abilities[edit | edit source]

Universal Consoles[edit | edit source]

The Mercury Class Pilot Escort comes equipped with Microprojectile Barrage Launcher universal console that launches swarms of kinetic missiles against up to 5 foes in a 90 degree arc in front of you for a short period of time. Unlike standard projectiles, these do not need a target, as they will automatically lock on to any target in the arc of fire. Enemies that are hit will be knocked away by the explosion and spun slightly in a random direction. This console also provides a moderate passive boost projectile weapon damage.

This console is part of the Piloting Modifications set. Other consoles from this set can be equipped for set bonuses and additional abilities.

Experimental Weapon[edit source]

The Mercury Class Pilot Escort comes with an Experimental Weapon slot. This additional slot does not fit standard weapons. Unlike standard starship weapons, Experimental weapons are not affected by weapon firing modes, such as those granted by bridge officer abilities.

Pilot Maneuvers[edit source]

Pilot ships can perform a sudden maneuver in each horizontal direction: Forward, Backward, Left or Right. Executing each maneuver will rapidly reposition your starship while granting very brief damage immunity, but costs all available thruster fuel which takes several seconds to recover.

Notes[edit | edit source]

The Tactical Pilot Escort is well suited for two roles:

  • With a full load of Dual Heavy Cannons in the front to batter down enemy shields, and the Microprojectile Barrage Launcher used to deliver a powerful follow-up strike, the Mercury can deliver a punishing assault before dashing off to recharge its shields and cannons.
  • With a torpedo-heavy loadout, the Mercury can also fly through the battle and attack targets of opportunity, especially when paired with pilot abilities like Lock Trajectory or Hold Together.
