The Intrepid Long Range Science Vessel is a Captain (Tier 4) level Federation Science Vessel. It's one of the most influential types of ships in Starfleet to-date. The most renowned Long Range Science Vessel, USS Voyager launched in 2371 was commanded by Captain now Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway.
Variants
Intrepid class
The Intrepid class was the most technologically advanced ship of its kind in 2371. The design was considered a success and paved the way for many other Federation ship designs after USS Voyager experienced a seven year stint in the Delta Quadrant without a single visit to a Federation Starbase.
Cochrane class
This rugged design was named after the Starfleet grandfather and Human inventor of Warp Drive Dr. Zefram Cochrane. While not the first craft to bear his name, this class meets the standards and set forth as the toughest of Intrepid based designs. The Saucer is longer, the hull is shorter and nacelles are also hefty. Utopia Planitia designers made adjustments so that it could be even more self sufficient outside of Federation borders.
Discovery class
After creating the successful Intrepid class, the Utopia Planitia designers decide to update the design. Thus in the year 2400, Discovery was born. It was designed to be just as capable as Cochrane and Intrepid and even more advanced. A brand new nacelle design and highly experimental pylon fins were aimed at creating a more efficient and stable flight during warp travel when nacelles were in the upward position.
Bellerophon class
This is an extra add-on available after purchasing the Long Range Science Vessel Refit from the C-Store for 1,500 . The Bellerophon class is based on the iconic Intrepid class, but with a more advanced design. The Bellerophon class has a unique half-moon shaped main deflector and distinctive blue bussard collectors, as well as the whiter hull color found in 25th century starship designs.
Performance
The hype does not lie. The Long Range Science Vessel is a tiny package with a lot of kick. It's also often used by Engineer players as an alternative to the Exploration Cruiser because of its balance of maneuverability, survivability and power. While not as equipped as an Exploration Cruiser or not as deadly as a Tactical Escort, this is made up with the standard Science Vessel sub-targeting system.
Standard Configuration
Federation starships come with standard equipment and weapons of the lowest mark available at the ship's minimum rank. The items provided are appropriate to the type of vessel and its related playing style.

Abilities
Federation Science vessels come with built-in abilities. These abilities do not automatically rank up when acquiring higher tier Science starships and must be gained through Tactical Space Bridge officer abilities.
- Beam Target Auxiliary Subsystems I
- Beam Target Weapons Subsystems I
- Beam Target Engines Subsystems I
- Beam Target Shields Subsystems I
- Sensor Analysis
After activating a subsystem targeting ability, the player will have 30 seconds to attack an enemy ship with any form of beam weapon. The attack will lower power to that system, and have a small chance of completely taking the system offline. If the system is taken offline it renders all abilities that use that subsystem temporarily inert. For example, if you target the shields and subsequently take them offline, then all of the enemies shield facings will go down.
The Sensor Analysis passive ability grants the player a stacking damage bonus of 3.33% per minute against a single target whilst the player maintains target lock on an enemy. Once the player switches targets the bonus is reset.
