Star Trek Online has a very powerful character creation editor in which many of the non-player races can be recreated. The following guide will teach you how to recreate canon alien species using the editor.

United Federation of Planets[edit | edit source]

Human[edit | edit source]

To create a human is not a difficult assignment. You can either choose to create an alien without any non-human characteristics, or (if you are creating a Klingon Empire character) you can choose to create an Orion and give him/her a pink skin color. All other details are open for customization.

  • Difficulty: Very simple
  • Accuracy: 100%
  • Customization limits: When using an Orion as a template, only white humans can be created.

Vulcan[edit | edit source]

Like above, simply create an alien and give it all-human characteristics (with the obvious exception of pointed ears and if possible somewhat angled eyebrows).

  • Difficulty: Very simple
  • Accuracy: 100%
  • Customization limits: None.

Aenar[edit | edit source]

The Aenar Female created using this Guide.

All pieces you need to create an Aenar are available through the character editor. The only problem players might have is with the skin color and eyes, as the Aenar's blind eyes are unique to the ZEN Store's Aenar Bridge Officers and the skin color is not 100% correct.

  • Difficulty: Very simple
  • Result: 90% accurate
  • Customization limitations: Skin color is not 100% correct, eyes are not the same as the Aenar species in-game.

The Benzite race is available as a player race but not as a bridge officer. This guide is aimed at assisting to get a Benzite bridge officer or an alien playable version, although the respiration device is not available.

  • Difficulty: Very simple

  • Customization limitations: Skin color is not 100% correct, no respiration device, female version not added.

All pieces you need to create an Denobulan are available through the character editor. The only thing missing is a chin piece, but all NPCs in the game suffer from the same limitation.

  • Customization limitations: Most hair cuts won't fit well.

Use Variant 1, 7 or 9 as a starting point. Makeup 01 is the closest pattern, however Makeup 02 can be used if you prefer lighter coloured eye sockets.

If desired, physical characteristics may be altered to your own specification as required, though Orions are generally quite tall (1.88m/6' 2" as a rough average) and males are much more muscular.

  • Difficulty: Simple
  • Result: 100% accurate

Use Variant 1 as a starting point.

Female[edit | edit source]

For a female character the best looking pattern is Makeup 02, but the other makeup options are fitting as well.

Male[edit | edit source]

For the male character the best looking pattern is Heroic, but you can go with standard 01, standard 02 or aged 01-05.

Thanks to the "LoR" expansion (live since May 21st, 2013), you are now able to create a more accurate Romulan in the alien gen by using forehead detail ¨Romulan¨.

Hirogen[edit | edit source]

The Hirogen Male created using this Guide.

Creating a decent Hirogen is a bit tricky. Ideally, you would like to use a dual lobe head with a smooth nose, which is the only combination not supported by the character editor. Also, a Hirogen base complexion and overall pattern are not available. So this guide gives only a rough approximation, as most Hirogen parts used by the game seem to be unaccessible through the editor interface.

  • Difficulty: Advanced
  • Result: 60% accurate
  • Customization limitations: Limited face customization, as base complexion (age), nose and mouth parameters are already defined

The Remans are a humanoid race originating from the planet Remus in the Romulus System, but eventually left that planet to settle on Crateris. While some remain subjects of the Romulan Star Empire, large numbers of Remans have banded together to form a separate faction - the Reman Resistance, which is based in the Vault and has since allied itself with the Romulan Republic on New Romulus.

All pieces you need to create an Cardassian are available through the character editor, however, they are strangely named. The only thing that can not be 100% replicated is the wide Cardassian neck. But some NPCs in the game seem to suffer from the same limitation.

  • Difficulty: Simple
  • Result: 95% accurate
  • Customization limitations:
    • Base complexion cannot be changed (age), most beards and hair cuts won't fit well.
    • Females lack the chest patterning seen on Natima Lang in "Profit and Loss". This is only visible with open variant Sierra/Antares uniforms or low-cut tops.

this is the most authentic and least goofy jem'hadar possible. since there are no chin horns available in editor. since there is no option for jem'hadar skull shape, the back of the skull is covered by hair, which is canon FYI DS9 306 "the abandoned"

the reason for the spots is that jem'hadar makeup on DS9 often appeared flaky. the brow can be reinforced with the lissepian eyebrow 4.
