The Fleet Patrol Escort was an Admiral (Tier 5) level Federation Escort. Players could obtain the vessel through the Shipyard for 20,000 Fleet Credits and 4 Fleet Ship Module icon.png, as long as the player's Fleet had a Tier I shipyard. This ship was retired shortly after the launch of Season 9 and replaced with the Fleet Patrol Escort Refit.

Fleet Patrol Escorts have expanded Engineering facilities intended to support a battle group during difficult missions. The Fleet Patrol Escort has been specifically designed to support your Fleet. Fleet Starships are built to the highest standard and have increased Hull Hit Points, Shield Strength, and an additional Console slot.

This ship is retired as of 8 May 2014, replaced by the Fleet Patrol Escort Refit. However, those who own this ship will not have it replaced with the Refit version unless they upgrade the vessel to T5-U status, in which it is converted to the Refit configuration.

Variants[edit | edit source]

Maelstrom class[edit | edit source]

Maelstrom class

The Maelstrom class primarily features sharper angles, flatter surfaces, and a more "armored" look. Its saucer is the widest of all the Patrol Escorts, and gives the impression of a Bird-of-Prey with forward-swept "wings". Its nacelles are flat and straight, with the Bussard Collectors located on the underside. Its nose-mounted deflector is also smaller and square-shaped.

This class was previously available as an extra ship skin at the C-Store, but as of Season 7 is exclusive to the Fleet Patrol Escort. Players who purchased the skin prior to the Season 7 update may still use the Maelstrom skin on any Patrol Escorts they own.

Dervish class[edit | edit source]

Dervish class

The Dervish Class has a more traditional saucer section with the largest deflector nose of all the variants. It has four Reaction Control Thrusters and protruding Impulse Thrusters at the back of the saucer. The large nacelles feature wide angle Bussard collectors at the front. Its center pylon is the largest with side pylons that sweep backward. (The Dervish Class was named by fans through a competition on the Star Trek Online official website.)

Gryphon class[edit | edit source]

Gryphon class

The Gryphon variant has an elongated saucer section with a deflector nose that has a Klingon style fin underneath. Below the saucer are rib like sections that lead to the impulse thrusters. Uniquely, it has deflectors similar to a Defiant class on both sides of the saucer, as well as having only two Reaction Control Thrusters. The nacelles are much longer with bigger recessed Bussard collector ports and arched side pylons. Its center pylon is wing shaped with carved triangular shapes in the front.

Hermes class[edit | edit source]

Hermes class

The Hermes class is the shortest variant. The saucer has a more carved out front end with a smaller deflector nose. Its side pylons are forward sweeping with a lower angular center pylon. Its nacelles are the shortest of the four variants, with smaller Bussard ports and a dark red Particle Aperture strip at the center front. Its Reaction Control Thruster ports are much larger as well.

Performance[edit | edit source]

The main advantage of the Fleet Patrol over other Escorts of its tier is the Universal Bridge Officer slot, allowing the Captain more versatility for his selected loadout. It can be fitted with a bridge officer layout like its rear admiral counterpart, or the rear admiral Advanced Escort layout. Although the Advanced Escort bridge officer layout can be used, the Multi-Vector Assault Module cannot be equipped on this ship due to the Patrol Escort skin.

Typically, the escort is set up to run with a high-dps Cannon build, taking advantage of increased turn rate relative to its predecessors. This usually includes a minimum of three Dual Heavy Cannons up front and at least one Turret in the rear. Dual Heavy Cannons are preferred due to the spike damage they are able to provide. This Cannon load-out can be modified to increase kinetic or energy damage, depending on player style. Dual Cannons are not advised as they are better at sustained damage, while Beams work better for consistent damage due to the wider firing arcs.

For PvP, this Escort is considered to have some of the best survivability in the game when run with the original Patrol Escort bridge officer layout, second only to the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship, in which greater maneuverability and slightly increased hull strength play a significant role.

Standard Configuration[edit | edit source]

Federation starships come with standard equipment and weapons of the lowest mark available at the ship's minimum rank. The items provided are appropriate to the type of vessel and its related playing style.

Controversy[edit | edit source]

The Dervish class name was the subject of some controversy from portions of the Star Trek Online community who felt that the term's religious connotations were inappropriate to the Star Trek setting. This controversy did not extend to the Hephaestus, Oracle or Prometheus in-game classes.
