The Fleet Avenger Battlecruiser (T5) is a Vice Admiral level (Tier 5) Federation Battle Cruiser, the first of its kind. As the name suggests, the Avenger shares many characteristics with Klingon Battle Cruisers, having been designed for war and not exploration. Players can obtain the vessel through any Shipyard for 20,000 and 4 , as long as the player's Fleet has a Tier IV Fleet shipyard. It can be purchased for only 20,000 and 1 if the Avenger Battle Cruiser has already been purchased from the C-Store.
Variants
Avenger class
Since the war with the Klingon Empire began, Starfleet engineers have been working on ship designs intended for battle as well as exploration. One of the designs to come out of this effort was the Avenger Class Battle Cruiser. The Avenger Class Battle Cruiser’s design aims to provide a durable warship that is more maneuverable than Starfleet’s existing cruisers, and can carry a devastating amount of firepower. However, it does sacrifice a measure of hull strength for this extra maneuverability. There is nothing subtle about this starship class. The Avenger’s aggressive silhouette and available firepower makes it a formidable and intimidating presence in any battle.
Performance
The Fleet Avenger Battle Cruiser improves on one of the standard Avenger Battle Cruiser's only weaknesses - its durability. With the Fleet upgrade providing the ship with extra Hull and Shield strength over the standard Avenger, as well as a better shield modifier, the Fleet Avenger is better suited to withstanding punishment. With 5 fore weapons slots, 4 Tactical and Engineering consoles, the ability to mount Dual Cannons and a superior Turn Rate (9), the Fleet Avenger offers a great mix of hitting power and survivability - an excellent analog to the Fleet Tor'Kaht Battle Cruiser Retrofit.
The ship's main weaknesses are its lack of Science abilities (despite the addition of an extra console) and only 3 aft weapons slots, leaving the ship vulnerable to Alpha-Strike tactics, especially by decloaking Klingon and Romulan ships. To counter this, it is highly recommended that the player equip the Cloak from the Dreadnought Cruiser or the Tactical Escort Retrofit if they have it, granting the ship a strong Alpha-Strike capability of its own.
