The Drantzuli are an insect-like race first encountered by the Alliance in 2410 in the Dranuur System when they hatched from germanium crystals found in dozens of systems including the 20 Draconis System, the Mivic System and the Jod'Cor System. During the battle for Bajor, it is revealed that Drantzuli are in fact caretakers of long thought extinct species called the Hur'q.
Physiology[edit | edit source]
Little is known of the creatures' biology beyond their insect-like appearance and their hibernation inside germanium crystals.
A special variant of Drantzuli, so called Glowing Drantzuli, exist.
History[edit | edit source]
For reasons yet unknown, Tzenkethi consider the Drantzuli such a threat that they have eradicated life on several worlds throughout the Alpha Quadrant, which contained these crystals. It was later theorized by Martok that the Drantzuli were caretakers of the Hur'q, and that the Tzenkethi had been targeting both species with their protomatter weapons.
Missions involved[edit | edit source]
- “Melting Pot”: After crystals were beamed from the planet's moon for study, they hatched, revealing the Drantzuli inside. The creatures proceeded to attack the colony until the Alliance, aided by Tzenkethi forces, eliminated them.
Missions mentioned[edit | edit source]
- “Scylla and Charybdis”: The Alliance puts a stop to the Tzenkethi attacks against worlds believed to harbor Drantzuli crystals During the battle over Bajor, it is revealed that the Drantzuli are caretakers of the Hur'q.
Notes[edit | edit source]
- Before the revelation in “Melting Pot”, germanium crystals were previously referenced in “Echoes of Light”, “Of Signs and Portents”, and “Mirrors and Smoke”.
