Blast Assaults are a type of Ground Weapon. Their primary fire method shoots a bolt of energy at a target.
They also have a secondary fire mode that shoots a concentrated bolt of energy at a single target, which explodes causing damage to enemies within a certain radius with a good chance to knock back. These shots have the chance of causing targets to become exposed, which can be useful if someone else is armed with an Exploit weapon.
Blast Assault weapons possess the lowest DPS potential among all ground weapons of a given Mark and rarity. They do, however, fire only one high-damage shot a time, whereas high DPS weapons fire in volleys of two or more; this makes this type of weapon a bit more reliable against Borg, but not so much as to be considered a definitive advantage over a higher DPS weapon which Borg will adapt to quickly. However, the secondary fire mode is rather useful, being both a long-range (30 meters) high-damage area-of-effect knockback and an expose attack, though the overall chance of exposing a given enemy in one blast is much lower compared to the Assault Minigun's secondary fire mode.
Depending on the type of energy used, these weapons have different secondary effects, as shown in the table below.

As of Season 5, the rarer the weapon, the more base damage it would do, regardless of suffixes.

Blast Assaults will have one modifier suffix, will have two and will have three. The same modifiers may appear multiple times (e.g. [Acc]x2, [Cap]x3, etc.).
