Klingon Battle Cruiser (K't'inga) reversed

Ship Overview

In Star Trek Online the Klingon Battle Cruiser is a ship belonging to the Klingon Empire faction and is available from Tier 3 (Commander) and carries through until Tier 5 (General) rank in three distinct configurations. Battle Cruisers are warships. In comparison to a Raptor, the Battle Cruiser carries slightly more in the way of firepower due to it's increased size but takes a hefty reduction to maneuverability in the process. Cruisers do however have improved larger warp cores which allows them the luxury of more power to their systems. They also have a much stronger hull therefore can take more damage before being destroyed.

Over the 3 Tiers that Battle Cruisers are available to players their crew size different significantly, going from 800 to 2,500. Although still conforming to the standard Klingon ship design of long narrow hulls for the main body and a wing-like aft section, there are striking differences between the three tiers. The K't'inga configuration is roughly equal in size to that of a Raptor but the Negh'Var configuration is over three times bigger in length and height. Much like the other Klingon vessels they can also equip cannons to give them a good boost to firepower.

Sub-types

K'Tanco

Klingon Battle Cruiser (K'Tanco)

K'Tanco Battle Cruiser

The K'Tanco matches to the Federation Cruiser in most respects. However it has a higher turn rate and a slightly stronger hull than its Starfleet equivalent, but is one device slot short. Also it can mount Dual Cannons and Dual Heavy Cannons.

K't'inga

Klingon Battle Cruiser (K't'inga)

K't'inga Battle Cruiser

The K't'inga Battle Cruiser is a monster of a starship for its tier. It is the first vessel of both the Federation and Klingon Empire factions that has four frontal weapon slots (which can hold cannons). In comparison to the Federations Cruiser of this Tier (the Heavy Cruiser) is has better turn rates, 300 more crew, can cloak itself and has bonus shield strength however its hull is 6,000 hit points weaker and due to its 4 frontal weapon slots, it only has 2 at the rear. K't'inga (Refit)

Klingon Battle Cruiser (K't'inga Refit)

K't'inga Battle Cruiser (Refit)

Aesthetically it is very appealing. It features a standard Klingon design with wings that lead to the nacelles at the aft section of the ship, a neck stem connected to the main hull and the bridge located towards the front. The default design that players will get when they acquire the ship is that of the refit model. They can change it once for free at a ship customization officer although subsequent changes will cost Energy Credits. The K't'inga class at Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki.

Vor'cha

Klingon Battle Cruiser (Vor'cha)

Vor'cha Battle Cruiser

The Vor'cha Battle Cruiser is obtained when a Klingon player achieves the rank of Captain. The ship size is much larger compared to the K't'inga models (nearly double the length), and due to this has nearly double the crew. The ship stands very well toe-to-toe with an Exploration Cruiser. It has more crew and nearly double the turn rate, but one less device slot and a weaker hull. The Vor'cha class at Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki.

Tor'Kaht

Tor'kaht

Tor'Kaht Battle Cruiser

Tor'Kaht class is an extra add-on available through the C-Store for 160 Cryptic Points. This ship is a variant of the Vor'cha class cruiser. Tor'Kaht's design is reminiscent of the Vo'Quv carrier.

Negh'Var

Klingon Battle Cruiser (Negh'Var)

Negh'Var Battle Cruiser

The Negh'Var is obtained at the Brigadier General rank. It continues as its predecessors did in terms of the increased size and crew compliment. In comparison to the Rear Admiral Federation Cruisers, it has 2.5x to 3.2x the crew compliment, better turn rates and can load cannons, however (like the other models and their Federation comparisons) it has a weaker hull. It is the only vessel in the Klingon Defense Force that has eight weapon slots (four aft, and four frontal). The Negh'Var class at Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki.

Qu'Daj

The Qu'Daj is obtained at the General rank. As far as appearances, it is a variant of the Negh'Var class.

Performance

Performance wise the Klingon Battle Cruiser line and its configurations are very powerful warships. They all have large to very large crew sizes which helps speed up repair rates on the vessel. Their large and advanced warp cores give them extra power to weapons and engines. The Battle Cruiser has a significant armament being the most well equipped Klingon Empire vessel in terms of weapons slots that players can customise. This is also strengthened by the fact, like all Klingon vessels, they can equip cannons for a damage boost.

The K't'inga variation is more of a forward facing vessel since 4 of the 6 available slots it gets are located at the fore end of the ship. At the General rank though when players are able to get the Negh'Var Battle Cruiser this is evened out and players will get 4 each at the fore and aft sections of the ship. This suits the ship well given it's sub-par maneuverability.

Battle Cruisers are not very fast in comparison to other ships in the Klingon fleet, although compared to Federation ships they are on par with the exception of the Escort type vessels. These ships have the most dedicated Engineering slots of any of the Klingon vessels, and at General rank can have three Engineering officer stations of various ranks.

Abilities

  • Cloak - Allows the user to cloak the ship, although not in combat (all Battle Cruisers).
  • Battle Cruisers have an innate power bonus of: +5 Weapons Power, +5 Engines Power
