||
− | The Heavy Escort is the second tier of Tactical Escorts in the game. This type of escort loses a point in maneuverability but gains hull strength to make up for it. The ship also gains an aft weapon slot allowing for rear torpedo attacks. As a result, the ship is very deadly to enemies during that phase of the game when equipped appropriately. |

- Tier 3 Variants
- Akira Heavy Escort
- Thunderchild Heavy Escort Refit
- Tier 6 Variants
The Akira-class Heavy Escort is a Tier 3 (Level 20) Escort which may be flown by Starfleet characters, including Federation-aligned Romulan Republic and Dominion characters. All faction restrictions of this starship can be removed by having a level 65 KDF character or by purchasing the Cross Faction Flying unlock from the Zen Store.
Players can obtain this starship from any Ship and Shuttle Requisitions officer for 5,000 .
This ship can also be obtained by Federation players for free upon reaching level 20 by using their free Starship Requisition token.
Overview
The Akira-class Heavy Escort continues the design philosophy of the 22nd century NX class and featured prominently during the Battle of Sector 001 and throughout the Dominion War. The Akira's proven effectiveness have led to its current production and to one being always within one light-year of Earth. Ships of the class include the U.S.S. Geronimo, U.S.S. Kelvin and U.S.S. Thunderchild (NCC-63549).
Class variants
Class | Information |
---|---|
SKIN UNLOCK: Free The Akira class continues the design philosophy of the 22nd century NX class, albeit with its nacelles swung downward instead of upward. It retains the long, thin deflector at the front of its primary hull, the small secondary hull connected to the warp nacelles by pylons, and the long, thick stanchions connecting the primary hull to those pylons. In lieu of the long, thin deflector of the NX class, it has a forward hangar bay, and a standard deflector attached underneath the primary hull. It also has standard shuttle bays in the aft section where the NX class has its EVA staging area, instead of a vertical shuttle pod launching bay. | |
SKIN UNLOCK: Free The Oslo-class Heavy Escort is an upgraded and modified version of the earlier Norway-class ship. It has an elongated primary hull and lacks a secondary hull, instead having weapon hardpoints attached to the nacelle pylons directly. It shares the same nacelle design as the Nova-class Science Vessel. | |
SKIN UNLOCK: Free The Zephyr-class Heavy Escort is an upgraded and modified version of the earlier Steamrunner-class ship. | |
SKIN UNLOCK: Thunderchild Heavy Escort Refit, 75,000 The Thunderchild-class Heavy Escort is a tribute to the U.S.S. Thunderchild (NCC-63549) which engaged the Borg in Sector 001. | |
SKIN UNLOCK: Armitage Heavy Strike Wing Escort, 2,500 The Armitage class features low-slung, forward-swept pylons and long, tapered nacelles. Its saucer is built around a thick central spine that contains the deflector and elevates the bridge above the split hull. A battery of cannon apertures is concentrated in the nose, above and to the sides of the deflector dish. Torpedo and turret fire comes from the top-mounted launcher in the rear pylon. If made to use components from standard Heavy Escorts such as the Akira or Thunderchild, its size will shrink to match. | |
SKIN UNLOCK: Alita Heavy Strike Wing Escort, 3,000 The Alita-class Heavy Strike Wing Escort is based upon the highly successful Armitage-class design. This new heavy escort has been built from the ground up to most efficiently combat the Iconian threat. |

Notes
- Despite its canonical origins in the 24th century, the Akira class was in fact produced before and used as inspiration for the 22nd century NX-01 Enterprise from the TV series Star Trek: Enterprise, after its popular appearances in both Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and Star Trek: Voyager.
- The Akira class' model and material were given a revamp twice, once in July 2015, and another in April 2020 to bring it in line with the model seen on-screen in Star Trek: First Contact.
