Janok lived for many of his young adult life in the unpopulated but fertile hills to the east of the town, studying manuals from the original settling craft and honing his technical skills in solitary work. Janok innovatively created a rudimentary craft that would take him into orbit, however he was ignorant to the true vacuum in space. His craft exploded, but he was saved by an orbiting Federation starship, whose transporter officer was a third-year Starfleet cadet by the name of Charlott Kadjer. Over the next three months, Janok, Charlott, and Nushid quickly became close friends. When the Federation starship left the sector, Janok decided to leave his home and take on a new life, that of a Starfleet officer. Janok officially enrolled in Starfleet Academy in the fall of 2399. |

Janok
Janok is a Vulcan Starfleet Captain, and commanding officer of the starships U.S.S. Providence, a Sovereign-class Fleet Assault Cruiser Refit, U.S.S. Challenger III, an Odyssey Science Cruiser, as well as other ships.
History
Early life
Janok was born in 2341 to a pair of Vulcan settlers, and was raised on a remote colony world on the outskirts of Federation space, near the Klingon and Romulan borders. The planet, which has become forgotten in the tumulous conflicts in the next fifty years, was mostly an agricultural world, with a minor spaceport built into a small town. Romulan traders came by frequently, and due to Janok's curiosity with the 'flying metal birds', he came in contact with the much less civilized Romulans, and developed a bond with the traders and their colleagues. As such, Janok never learned to repress his emotions as well as others, and was frowned upon by the Vulcan majority. He found himself accepted only by the Romulans, and by Nushid, an Orion female who worked on an Orion destroyer craft patrolling in the area.
As a Starfleet officer
Passing the academy with above average marks in 2403, Janok was assigned to the U.S.S. Laertes, an Excelsior-class starship. While onboard, his solitary habits earned him the reputation of an outcast, and he was never in agreement with his superiors. Despite a promotion to Lieutenant, Janok applied for a transfer within six months, and was assigned to a remote Federation research outpost as Deputy Chief Engineer.
While at the outpost, using the retired Mark One Emergency Medical Hologram template in the outpost's deep memory storage, Janok created an improved Emergency Command Hologram, designed to think creatively and take over in emergency situations. Janok received a nomination for the Nobel Prize for Holographic Technology but lost the award to a snobby recluse living in the Beta-9-Sigma system. After two more years, Janok applied for a promotion after his hard work in keeping the outpost operational, and was accepted and transferred to a starship in 2406, along with his personal effects, log books, and a copy of the E.C.H.
For almost a year, Janok spent his time as a senior engineer at the rank of Lieutenant Commander on the U.S.S. Challenger, a Centaur-class starship standing in for the actual U.S.S. Challenger, which was undergoing repairs to her systems. The stand-in ship came under fire in multiple conflicts as a member of the Starfleet 32nd Fleet, assigned to the Beta Ursae sector block. Janok was present at his longtime friend Charlott's promotion to Rear Admiral, on Deep Space K-7. Not too long after, due to Starfleet's new policy to fast-track its officers, Janok was promoted to Commander in 2408 and became the XO of the ship.
Janok's pivotal point, his first shot at the "big chair", was in the summer of 2408 when the ship was assigned to patrol the Vega system, and his ship was one of the first ships to answer the distress call of the hapless civilian planets in the system. The Challenger quickly spotted and engaged a Borg cube in orbit of Vega XII along with six other Federation starships, and was crippled by a Cutting Beam attack, which sliced off a nacelle and a portion of the saucer, killing forty-seven officers, including the captain and several key officers, and incapacitating eighty more. Activating his E.C.H. program, Janok personally repaired the starship's critical systems and saved the remaining lives onboard the vessel. His actions earned him a prestigious medal and his subsequent promotion to the full rank of Captain.
As a Starfleet Captain
By this time, the original Starship Challenger had finished its repairs. Janok took immediate command of this mighty Galaxy-X class dreadnought, on assignment to deep space patrol missions to find the cause of the Borg incursions. Janok and the Challenger were quickly reassigned to the Eta Eridani Sector Block to defend more strategically important systems from the Borg. The Challenger's advanced sensors gave Starfleet Elite Task Forces a better chance in battle engagements, and its hull was remarkably resilient. Challenger also participated in the battle to retake Deep Space Nine from rogue Jem'Hadar, and in the discovery of a Preserver Obelisk.
Unfortunately, due to a phenomenon nicknamed "Season 7", the forty-year-old starship was deemed outdated and no longer suitable for fighting the technologically advanced Borg and their invisible high-yield torpedoes. Janok, with his combat reputation and long service in Starfleet, was able to procure one of the newly upgraded Galaxy-class Fleet starships. Under the same name, Janok set out in the Challenger II for another fourteen months of extended conflict with the Klingons. Among scientific, diplomatic, and combat missions, Challenger II encountered the Iconian Dreadnought Obex and traveled to fluidic space.
- Offensive Cruiser
In April of 2409, the Challenger-II responded to a fake distress call from the U.S.S. Voyager. Upon entering the system, the Challenger-II was attacked by a fleet of Species 8472 warships. The ship's formidable defenses could not repel a surprise assault on the warp drive system. Restricted from warping away, the ship could do little but endure the assault, and was crippled within ten minutes. A shot to the main impulse engine penetrated through fifty meters of the hull, striking the warp reactor and matter storage. Facing a core breach, Captain Janok ordered his crew of over a thousand to evacuate the ship via saucer separation, escape pods and shuttlecraft, and also ordered the stardrive section to ram the lead enemy ship. Upon separation, the stardrive slowly rammed the lead vessel, crippling its ability to maneuver; the core breached thirty seconds later, vaporizing both vessels. Although the shuttlecraft escaped, the escape pods and saucer were destroyed by the vengeful 8472 fleet. Over nine hundred personnel, including enlisted and non-enlisted personnel, were lost in the initial assault or the evacuation; only 122 survived.
Captain Janok and most of his bridge crew returned to Dyson Joint Command onboard the shuttlecraft, and was transferred back to Earth shortly afterward. Upon debriefing, Admiral Quinn authorized Janok to take command of a Sovereign-class vessel as his new command vessel. On April 29th of 2410, Captain Janok set out from Vancouver Shipyards as commanding officer of the U.S.S. Providence.
Recent history
- Fleet Defense Coordination
Over the next several months, the Providence set out to find and destroy Undine scout vessels, as well as assist in the Solanae Dyson Sphere. Providence was one of the first ships to voyage into the Delta Quadrant, and made contact with a few species.
The Challenger III, an Odyssey-class Science Vessel, was completed in 2414 and underwent minor refitting soon afterward. The descendant of the Galaxy-class vessels now serves as Janok's primary fleet support vessel, and boasts one of the largest repair and science crews on any Federation starship.
Janok also has access to other Starfleet vessels in the same task force.
Janok is also well known for his contributions to Starfleet side missions, dubbed 'Foundry' missions by the general Starfleet populace. Janok, an amateur historian, has contributed a Foundry mission entitled 'HB: Best of Both Worlds', a recreation of the events prior to and during the Battle of Wolf 359. The mission is available to play, but is in the alpha stage and will not be completed.
Janok was assigned a position as PvP Boot Camp Coach, and operates out of Deep Space station K-7. He is still in active service, but he and his flagship are currently placed on reserve.
Janok is currently married to a beautiful girl named Nydia.
