This page is reserved for the listing of upcoming content in Star Trek Online.
Note: Season Eight: The Sphere was launched November 12 but is considered to span the entire period until Season 9, scheduled to be released in early 2014. Between season launches there are small updates, C-Store releases, and minor events.
Season 9: A New Accord (22 April 2014 [1][2])
- Tim Russ will return as Admiral Tuvok commanding the U.S.S. Voyager to progress the Dyson/Voth/Delta Quadrant storyline further [3][4], Tuvok will return in at least two more missions after "A Step Between Stars" [5]
- Name might be "A Step Between Stars, Part II", uncertain [6]
- Larger battlefield-like ground adventure zone, possibly featuring ground vehicles [7] [8]
- At least two new STFs [9]
- "Undine Assault", in which players attempt to save one of four planets from being destroyed by Undine Planet Killers
- "Undine Infiltration", in which players must interrogate Bajorans in an attempt to weed out who is an Undine and who isn't.
- Undine/Species 8472 will be featured [9], amongst others revamping of
- Undine Advance/Borg Collective-story arcs (putting in four times as much time as was used to revamp the Klingon War-arc) [4]
- “State of Q” removed from revamp set, status unknown.
- New missions gain new mission completion items.
- STF: Terradome (unlikely) [10][11][9]
- Fluidic Space Fleet Action/Gekli Feeding Grounds fleet action unlikely [12][13][14][9]
- Undine Advance/Borg Collective-story arcs (putting in four times as much time as was used to revamp the Klingon War-arc) [4]
- Decisive improvements on perks for lifetime-subscribers [15]
- 2nd deflector slot for Science Vessels [16][3] and comm array item for cruisers (modifying the existing auras) [17]
- Will not be ready in time for Season 9 start, but WILL be part of Season 9.[18]
- Revamp of kits [19][20][21][4]
- Complete remake of Earth Space Dock: Making it a "Star Trek looking", less cramped place [6]
Revamp of PvP system
(To happen gradually after launch of Season 8 [22][24][25], main focus will be on space gameplay at first [9], has been given priority over Foundry improvements [4])
- STO will be first game to implement a new PvP engine developed by Cryptic [24]
- PvP-faction for the Reputation System [22][26][27], "PvP Marks" as rewards [28]
- All PVP in the new system will be cross faction queues [29]
- Matchmaking, e.g. matching people of comparable gear level [30]
- Rewards based on participation more than completion [31]
- PvP ratings/leaderboard tech is now available [32][20][30][33]
- Either replacing current PvP maps or revamping the existing ones [34]
- Possible: Starbase PvP Challenges [38]
Foundry improvements
(Many major improvements to be ported over from Cryptic's game Neverwinter [40][15])
- First half of 2014 [3]:
- New assets [40][15][3]
- "My Favorites" tab for Foundry missions [43]
- Older plan: Foundry faction in Reputation System [27][3]
- Remastering (cutscenes etc.) and incorporating the best Foundry missions into the hard code of the game as part of the official story line; possibly replacing some of the less popular Cryptic missions [36]
Revamp of Reputation System [44]
- Complete overhaul of the Omega, New Romulus, and Nukara Reputation System to match it with the Dyson Reputation System
- Dyson Reputation will lose Commendation Marks, new system to be implemented in order to redeem them.
- Implementation of Daily Bonus Marks - Earn extra marks through doing Daily XP Projects. Example: Daily XP Project: 30 marks. Hourly XP Project: 15 marks. Bonus marks = 55 (30 + 15 + 10 extra)
- Hourly XP Projects can only be ran a certain number per day. After limit is met, a new project that grants dilithium is added instead. This can be ran endlessly until reset.
- Tier upgrades now require 5 marks and 5 seconds to complete.
- Costume unlocks only require five marks plus other requirements (i.e.: All ground pieces collected)
- Romulan/Reman space sets and Nukara space sets getting revamped.
- Nukara space set cost reduced from 900 to 750.
- All Mk X and Mk XI equipment projects will be removed from the Reputation line, but all currently active sets will not be removed from the game.
- Complete overhaul of the Reputation Powers System [45]
- New power set up - 4 active powers, 4 ground passive powers and 4 space passive powers.
- Can respec anytime for free.
- Can stack with any version.
- New power set up - 4 active powers, 4 ground passive powers and 4 space passive powers.
Lohlunat Festival (June/July - August 2014)
- Return of Lohlunat Festival (Summer Event) on Risa
- May include Swimwear and new Powerboards based on leaks
- Will most likely include a ship similar in design to the Risian Corvette
Expansion II (late 2014)
- 2nd expansion announced [46], "won't be any smaller than Expansion I" [17]
- Tim Russ will return again as Tuvok to further progress the Dyson/Voth/Delta Quadrant storyline after Seasons 8.5 and 9. [3][4]
- Tuvok will return in at least two more missions after "A Step Between Stars" [5]
- Another Voyager-related voice talent in addition to Tim Russ, possibly Garrett Wang as Harry Kim [4]
- Addition of Delta Quadrant [47][11][15][4]
- Delta Quadrant likely to happen before Gamma Quadrant [22]
- Delta Quadrant locations and races (such as Kazon, Malon, Vidiians, Talaxians, Krenim, the Devore, the Hierachy, and additional Borg) have slight chance of appearing in Season 8, but more likely to be Season 9 or later [19]
- Polish of Voyager/Intrepid class with ship interior bundles (possibly also containing Admiral Janeway's SC-4 shuttle with ablative armor and cloaking device [32]) might be connected to that [48][38][10][41][42][20][32][49][3]
- Federation-adapted Dauntless class [3]
- "Hugh-like" liberated Borg as additional playable faction could theoretically be associated with Delta Quadrant [50]
- Talaxians[37], Ocampa (FED) and Kazon (KDF) as new playable races [11][34]
- Voth possibly connected to some content taking place on Gorn homeworld [51]
Season 10 (2015)
Undetermined Release
- Iconians as new major enemy faction after the Borg and Tholians [52][11][34][53]
- Getting more voice acting in the game (for existing and new missions); DStahl & Al Rivera specifically mentioned the following Star Trek actors: [15][54]
- Robert Picardo (EMH)
- Jonathan Frakes (William T. Riker)
- George Takei (Hikaru Sulu)
- Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine; likely too expensive [4])
- Brent Spiner (Data)
- John de Lancie (Q)
- Kate Mulgrew (Kathryn Janeway; likely too expensive [4])
- Expansion of Duty Officer system [15]
- DOff system to be implemented into the STO Gateway
- Likely including re-release of the Tuffli Class Freighter
- Duty officer assignment cooldowns listed (possibly Season 9) [43]
- Possible: Duty officer commendation Tier V categories added (requirement is above the 150,000 CXP cap) [55][56]
- Revamp of Bridge Officer training system [17]
- More new sectors in Alpha Quadrant [10][57], probably as "Founders of the Federation" expansion [51]
- Sector between the Sol System and Cardassia including Betazed and Trill/Trillius Prime along with other key Fed homeworlds [32][10][58][51]
- Xindi may show up in a future sector [20]
- Exploration revamp [19]
- Removing Exploration system altogether (i.e., the auto-generated missions in star clusters) is being considered as of early 2014. Star cluster Duty Officer assignments would be moved elsewhere. [3]
- Original plans were dependent on changes being introduced with the Fleet Advancement system and Fleet ownership of Starbases [42]
- Level cap increase...
- Revamp of remaining un-revamped episodes [17]
- New playable faction [54], e.g., Cardassian playable species [49]
- Return to Cardassian story would most likely be to launch a Cardassian faction with a story that players could experience for themselves [50]
- Fundamental revamp of “State of Q”, possibly copy-pasting Avery Brooks' voice for Benjamin Sisko from DS9: "Emissary" and, ideally, featuring John de Lancie as Q. To be re-introduced as stand-alone mission at some future point of time [17]
- Long-term goal of Reputation System: KDF/FED/ROM-specific reputation factions that function as voting system in which the players decide which project to fund, thereby influencing the general direction of their whole faction (e.g., which fleet ships are going to be released next etc.) [9]
- More mini-games
Ships
- Last remaining canon Federation ships will come, including new designs that may not have a unique console [50]
- Stargazer/Constellation class possibly with "Picard Maneuver" [16][15]
- Constellation class saucer is ingame as of the 11th of February 2014, accidental release which is now unavailable though owners of a ship using the saucer retain it
- Model of an existing IP ship ("little bit more of an obscure ship") already build, will be released when special power is finished [3]
- New Orleans, Freedom, and Niagara classes [39]
- Stargazer/Constellation class possibly with "Picard Maneuver" [16][15]
- Refit Negh'Var [3]
- Retouching stats of Nebula and Vesta classes [17]
- "Metric ton" of new ships by the end of 2014 [3]
Crafting revamp
- Completely new crafting system will come within 2014 [4]; previous crafting progression probably giving the character a slight head-start [22][40][20][12][65][66][51][15][4]
- Data samples & particle traces will be completely redone (e.g., new icons and likely fewer kinds, not tied to specific exploration clusters [4])
- Could get its own Reputation System faction (possibly Season 9) [51][27]
- Incorporating new content, i.e., crafting missions [41] (e.g., Targ and Gorn Saur crafting mission, to get attack pets [67])
- Incorporation of Duty Officer system [4]
- Craftable Horta variants [68]
- Update of Memory Alpha: Work in progress shot
- Further revamping probably after Season 9 [51]
