Overview

Special Task Force missions (abbreviated to STF) are episodes which are classified as raid content and have a five-person team size requirement. Special Task Force missions are end-game content and are restricted to characters that have achieved at least level 44. Enemies fought in STFs range between levels 45 and 53.

History

Prior to Season 5 Special Task Force missions were expected to require between one and two hours of playtime. Mission difficulty was relatively high; an experienced group would be challenged but not excessively so. Each episode was a self contained unit, comprising both ground combat and space combat sections. Each Borg STF mission awarded one of three components of the four-piece Borg Equipment set.

Post Season 5

Following the release of Season 5 the Borg STF missions Infected, The Cure and Khitomer Accord were split into ground and space sections. Additionally these missions were made accessible from the PvE Queue in a "Normal" and "Elite" form.

Content Designer "Gozer" described the new difficulty ranges such as pre-Season 5 being "7 out of 10", the new Normal missions as "5 out of 10" and the new Elite missions as "10 out of 10".

The original Borg equipment set rewards were removed from the completion of each mission and a new reward mechanic introduced. Each STF mission rewards at least 1 Encrypted Data Chip, which can be exchanged for components in several equipment sets. Depending on mission difficulty, additional rewards may be granted, giving the player access to higher level set pieces.
