Carrier
The Scimitar Dreadnought Warbird is a Vice Admiral (Tier 5) level Dreadnought Warbird.
The Scimitar Dreadnought Warbird comes with a [Console - Universal - Cloaked Barrage], which allows the ship to fire it's weapons while cloaked for a brief period of time, based on the ship's Singularity Charge. After the effect expires, the ship's weapons power will be significantly drained.
Players can purchase this ship through the Cryptic Store at a cost of 2,500 , or a 3-pack of Dreadnought variants for 5,000 .
Overview
In the late 24th Century, the I.R.W. Scimitar was developed covertly by a group of Remans under the command of Praetor Shinzon, a clone of Jean-Luc Picard.
Though equipped with numerous weapons and housing a contingent of Scorpion Fighters, the original Scimitar’s key feature was the ability to utilize thalaron radiation as a terrifying weapon. Shinzon first used a smaller thalaron radiation device to kill the entire Romulan Senate, and then relied on the Scimitar’s strength to back his overthrow of the Romulan government.
Praetor Shinzon attempted to deploy the Scimitar’s thalaron generator in the Battle in the Bassen Rift against the U.S.S. Enterprise-E and two Mogai-class Heavy Warbirds, but the Enterprise's crew prevented the weapon from being fired and destroyed the Scimitar – albeit at a heavy cost.
Since the Battle of the Bassen Rift, both the Tal Shiar and the Romulan Republic have developed new variants based on the original ship design. The Scimitar-class, Falchion-class, and Tulwar-class of Romulan Dreadnought Warbirds represent the Romulan Republic’s latest iterations on this technology.
In Star Trek Online, these behemoths are too big for the game to handle appropriately, so they are constantly triggering the game's collision detection, bumping other ships out of the way and generally blocking other players' view of the game.
Variants
Scimitar class
- Main Article: Scimitar Dreadnought Warbird
The Scimitar-class closely resembles the original model, designed for raw firepower.
As the ship was of Reman design, Dreadnought Warbirds are more angular when compares to the curved shapes of Romulan Warbirds. One other distinctive feature is that the warp nacelles are located on the main hull, where most Romulan vessels carry the nacelles on the wings, usually near the tips. The main hull is also more square and stubby than traditional Romulan vessels.
Falchion class
- Main Article: Falchion Dreadnought Warbird
The Falchion-class has a more steadfast focus, making them ideal for Engineering captains.
At first glance, the Falchion class appears very similar to the Scimitar class. There is a more distinctive deflector array on the top of the nose, and large green bussard collectors on the warp nacelles. Various slots on the ends of the wings also glow.
Tulwar class
- Main Article: Tulwar Dreadnought Warbird
The Tulwar-class has a higher emphasis on Science, but retains much of its offensive potency.
The most distinctive feature on the Tulwar class of Dreadnought Warbirds is that the pylons, wing tips and warp nacelle covers all having open gaps within them, giving a more lightweight appearance
Performance
The five forward weapon and tactical slots give plenty room for heavy damage-dealing. The cloaked barrage gives a significant advantage as you stay cloaked. A turn rate of 7 may not be enticing, but it does the job. A decloak bonus for turn rate keeps the cloaked turn rate for as long as the decloak buff stays active while also keeping the offensive advantage.
Combined with the other two consoles means surefire versatility as secondary shields will save you from destruction. However, using those slots for special consoles will use up space that can be used for other specialty consoles. With this amount of destructive capability at your fingertips, the world is yours to do with as you see fit.
