Secrets of the Ancients is a cutscene mission automatically awarded for completing Tier 5 of the New Romulus-track of the Reputation System.
Synopsis
The ancient recording presumably depicting an Iconian and two Dewans in front of an Iconian gateway.
D'Tan and a Head Researcher A'dria enter the underground power plant to find an Iconian gateway and playback an ancient recording. 200,000 years ago, an Iconian is seen talking with another life form, likely a Dewan (though the universal translator is unable to decipher the conversation). Several explosions occur and the Iconian escapes through the gateway. Another recording, 150,000 years old, shows the power plant being connected to a giant machine. The Dewans seem to try to power the gateway, but fail, again resulting in a catastrophic explosion.
Excited about the discovery, D'Tan thanks the player for assisting them and pledges to share any research information they gather from this site.
Federation players are then congratulated by Admiral Quinn, and KDF players by Chancellor J'mpok.

Notes
- Players must accept “New Romulus: The Power Source” in order to access the Underground Ruins. Players will need to equip Environmental Suits for themselves and each member of their Away Team for this mission.
- At 32,000 , this mission gives the single largest dilithium reward of any mission in the game to date.
- In recent interview by STOIC Podcast, Daniel Stahl stated following Iconian storylines will be added showing the consequences of the discovering the Iconian Gateway.
- The identity of the Iconian in the cutscene is unconfirmed due to the lack of distinguishing features in the Dewan hologram. Only L'Miren can be eliminated as a possibilty, having lost the use of her legs in the attack on Iconia while the Iconian in the hologram is seen standing and walking.
