Asset of the Wiki[]

Hello Akira-sensei, just to leave a note: I've seen how you added to the star system's pages for a while now and just spotted the new maps you've uploaded. Well done! It's good that there's someone who keeps these pages in order, you're a true asset for our community. In short, thank you! --Markonian 20:14, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Under construction[]

Since you're registered here, you can edit the under construction section yourself now by editing Template:Under construction. You don't need to ask admins to do it any longer. :) Eyes User-Eyes-Sig 05:55, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Thx!--Akira-sensei 12:23, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

{{Playableshipsbytyperow}}[]

I added Lobi Crystals and Fleet Credits to Property:Has cost unit; they should work in the template now. KarikaCommunicator 15:31, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

  • It looks like the new icons are working after I purged the MediaWiki cache, but, strangely, the DujHod Chariot and Captain's Yacht aren't showing up on {{playableshipsbytype}} on the Small Craft page. KarikaCommunicator 15:50, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
    • I think I fixed the bofficon problem; it was a non-breaking space in {{playableshipsbytyperow}}. KarikaCommunicator 16:17, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Compliment[]

Nice revision of the Playable Ships navigation list! I was looking at doing a bullet-point style revision, but you beat me to it. :) - User:NCODB

Wiki background colour[]

Is it me or is it that the wiki has recently changed its background so that it is white, with white text. This is impossible to see, as an Administrator is it possible to change the background to a different colour so we can see the text. thanks Hello191 16:07, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

No, seems perfectly fine to me. Check your skin settings under "My skin options" and switch to a solid background. --Akira-sensei 17:09, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
Seems like a stupid question, but, where would I find skin settings? Hello191 17:39, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
If you scroll up, "My skin options" is next to your "My talk" on the top-most bar of buttons leading you to account-related functions. --Akira-sensei 03:58, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
Not there. Other options? Hello191 15:36, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
User:Eyes would be the ideal contact person when it comes to any issues related to the skin. --Akira-sensei 19:06, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

Admin nomination[]

I tried to contact you by in-game mail on Thursday. Since I didn't receive a response, I am now publicly nominating you as a potential admin. Please accept or decline by following the instructions on the middle of the page at STOWiki:Requests for adminship/Akira-sensei. Note that accepting only opens this nomination up to community discussion; no final choices can be made until at least two weeks after you accept.

Either way, thank you for your contributions to the wiki. You've proven to be a real asset, and I believe you'll continue to be in any event. Eyes User-Eyes-Sig 21:40, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Vote[]

You put in a support vote for one of the admin candidates, but somehow it ended up on Template:RfA/Open rather than one of the request pages, so just letting you know you'll need to cast the vote again. I'm not sure who it was for. Eyes User-Eyes-Sig 22:32, 25 November 2012 (UTC)

Congratulations[]

Your RfA has been accepted by the administrative team, so congratulations and welcome to the team. We'll get your actual account promoted soon. Eyes User-Eyes-Sig 22:38, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for all your trust! --Akira-sensei 23:48, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Congratulations, you have now been promoted to an official admin with all the priviliges and duties that come with this rank. Thank you for your continued contributions to this Wiki, shall it live long and prosper! --RachelGarrett 06:46, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
Congratulations on your promotion, Administrator. - Mitchz95 14:11, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
Gratz for your promotion Akira , Live long and prosper :) Cris333 14:32, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Updates Needed[]

Since you're an admin, and your profile says your happy to help, I'll point this out to you, here so you can pass the need around to relevant people. Quite a few abilities (Science Fleet and Engineering Fleet are some, I changed Photonic Shockwave Torpedo I'm sure there are others) have references in their description to outdated skills in both the modified by section and the ability ranks box, could they please be updated to current skills. I'm fairly new to the game (and very new to the wiki) so I'm not sure I could do it myself. Ericphail 18:24, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out! I will pass that along. --Akira-sensei 10:29, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Welcome back[]

I'm glad to see you were able to get your account merged. Good to see you back on. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig 23:04, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, got it figured out eventually ;) --Akirasensei (talk) 10:09, 7 May 2013 (UTC)--

Recent updates[]

Hi Akira. I realise that you're an admin and I'm fairly new, but I'm not sure about some of the changes you have recently made within minutes of me creating various pages. It makes no sense for Ch'gren to give you a mission to inform himself that his wife is dead. From memory, the game does have him pop up and send you to J'mpok, but I think they chose the wrong NPC for that dialog and I consider it a bug. J'mpok is the one who asks you to perform the Duties of Command when you speak with him, and that makes sense to me. Also with the Empire and Vigilance episodes, I was going for the bigger "episode-wide" picture in the summary. Sure if you focus in tightly on it, Empire is about Franklin Drake, but what has that really got to do with the "Empire"? The chain is getting the new player familiar with the Klingon Empire, with the concept of honor and all those good Klingon things. Similar with Vigilance. I wasn't sure what to put there, perhaps something about keeping one's enemies close... in the end, on that one I just copied from the game description for the time being. I feel your description is too focused on the specific happenings in the missions and doesnt encompass the episode as a whole, in the same way that the episode title does. --Tahno (talk) 22:55, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Tahno, thank you for your contributions and your attention. So far the descriptive sentence for each episode-article is set up as a brief neutral summary. Neutral as in encyclopaedic, i.e., not designed as an advertisement slogan or teaser, but an informative short summary and hence spoiler (albeit a small one in these cases). That Ch'gren is the mission contact for Duties of Command is something I just looked up in my mission journal (listing him as contact), without actually replaying the mission. Now that I replayed it, I noted that the misssion is automatically acquired after finishing "First City", i.e., it has no mission giver ;) --Akirasensei (talk) 23:14, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Voth Faction[]

Hi Akira,

I've started getting things ready for the new Voth faction. I uploaded the Voth Duty Officer images and added them to the form, so that people can add the doffs without later having to deal with which doff with a missing image belongs to which image, and I started adding the faction nav stuff too, so that when people create pages they can include it as usual, without wondering why its not appearing due to missing templates. (Ie: to make cut-n-paste page building work as expected).

When I got to {{FactionColor}} the docs said to ask an admin to "update the appropriate faction styles", so I left that one alone. I'm not sure if you can do that, but I didn't want to bother Eyes with it just yet.

The Voth nav template {{Factionnav/Voth}} is there, and just needs to be filled in a bit more as we go, once the color and style has been set.

Tahno (talk) 15:58, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

As soon as I know what color the Voth get, I can add it to the template. Right now, I have no clue^^ --Akirasensei (talk) 19:25, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
I've figured out what needs to be done now, so that part is ok. As to the colour, I found myself forced to pick one due to a template {{Federation episodes}} that has styles coded into the tables. I think the Voth are a kind of purple, based on their Faction Logo, Marks, and general vibe. Im not sure where to look in game for an official colour. I picked #909 for now (seen on that template at the bottom). I wanted something kind of related to the Iconian colour, and picked #606 at first, but that is too close to the Dominion's #609, so I turned it upside down. I've only added #909 to one place so far (the three templates) so it's easy enough to change.
Btw: I'm using this site as my palette reference for web safe colours. Websafe isnt a big thing anymore, but it will retain standard colours on some really old computers. Just double up the numbers to read that list. #909 is #990099.
Tahno (talk) 18:32, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
I've added the color code to the template. --Akirasensei (talk) 23:48, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks :) Tahno (talk) 06:20, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

Abuse Filter false positive[]

Hello Akira,

I'm contacting you because it appears you are the most recently active administrator here on the wiki. I recently did a substantial rewrite of the Ground combat article, yet when I attempted to save the page I received the following message:

This action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your edit was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: Section Removal

That suggests there is an abuse filter blocking the changes. If you could take a look, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Omega414 (talk) 23:05, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

Now that you have more edits, the change would not be blocked any longer. Only accounts with a small edit count are affected by most of our abuse filters. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig 02:15, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, I've made the edit to the page. Omega414 (talk) 16:32, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

You missed something[]

You missed a </div> at the bottom of the page. --Koppadasao (talk) 21:09, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Faction symbol locations[]

Hi, I was wondering if you know how to find the various faction symbols in the code of STO? Where in the various folders should I go to find them? Thanks. - Mitchz95 (talk) 05:08, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

You mean like this:
Faction FedRomKDF [[Image:Faction_FedRomKDF.png]]
Faction Romulan Republic [[File:Faction Romulan Republic.png]]
Faction Klingon [[File:Faction_Klingon.png]]
Faction Starfleet [[File:Faction_Starfleet.png]]
Forgot to sign…--Koppadasao (talk) 12:27, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

As far as I know all these faction emblems are named acccording to the same scheme: File:Faction_XY.png, e.g., Faction Cardassian, Faction Tholian. --Akirasensei (talk) 12:24, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
I actually meant, where can I find the "source" symbols in the code of the game that I can upload to the wiki? Thank you, though. - Mitchz95 (talk) 21:19, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
In that case, ask on the official forum. --Koppadasao (talk) 21:26, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

CSS?[]

Hi. Im back, messing things up again (lol) and needed to create {{Epic}} since it was needed on Secondary Deflector. Thats all good, but I changed the 'span class="epic"' at the top of the template code since I copied it from {{Ultra Rare}} which had "ultrarare" in there, and thought I should give User:OOeyes a heads up so he can run an eye over the CSS (no pun intended) to be sure its valid. I forget where to check. His Talk page hasnt been touched in a year, so I figured I'd let you know, rather than mess up his nice clean page. It all works fine, from what I can see, and its not a big deal. I just didnt want to invent a CSS class or anything. Tahno (talk) 17:17, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Heh, well, as it turns out, I watch all admin talk pages anyway, so I've added the .epic class to the CSS for you. And while I've definitely been busy with other wiki projects, I am still the Curse liasion for STOWiki, so please feel free to contact me even if it looks like I've been idle a long time. oOeyes User-Eyes-Sig 20:22, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Eyes. I didnt for a moment think you were idle. I just dont like bugging ppl too much. Thanks for that :) Tahno (talk) 20:59, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

7 March 2015 revision of Player Ranks[]

Hello, as part of streamlining the Player Rank page you've wiped out a very important piece of information that is not listed anywhere else in the wiki - details regarding Starship Requisitions. The specific thing I was looking for, and needed to access the History to find, was which ships each Starship Requisition of each level could be used for. I don't want to revert the entirety of your efforts, so please incorporate this information somewhere, or create a new page for it, thanks. 70.50.237.250 18:17, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out. I have re-added the information to Player rank. --Akirasensei (talk) 22:54, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks! Should probably have the list of ships from the 600-day Vet token somewhere as well. --70.50.237.250 18:55, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

Collapsed nav jumplist - table width issue[]

Hey, since you're the top contributor here I was wondering if you could explain something table-related for me. I'm hardly a n00b when it comes to wikicode editing, but I simply can't figure out a template width issue on Template:Ability nav. I've collapsed a few "wall of text" table jumplist templates for the sake of consistency, readability and compactness and they're working perfectly fine except for one. When collapsed it's narrower than all others of this type, and when expanded it's wider (see my user page on here for a direct width comparison). The COLSPAN tags all look right and I don't see any table width numbers hard-coded anywhere, but it still does that weird size-jump thing that the others don't. What the derp am I missing? Tekn0mancer (talk) 18:27, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

PS The Template:Ability nav table display was already wider than all others before I started editing the template to add the collapse code. Whatever the cause of the width thing is, nothing I tried could fix it. Tekn0mancer (talk) 19:04, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
I've had similar problems with Template:factionnav/Talaxian. It seems to be a backend-related issue. Talk to User:Eyes. Maybe he knows more about that. --Akirasensei (talk) 19:08, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
Actually SubcommanderKinanra pointed out where the problem was for me, and I got it sorted so the thing actually looks and works as intended now. Maybe that code snippet can help you with the Talaxian nav too. -- Tekn0mancer (talk) 12:20, 7 May 2016 (UTC)

2410[]

  • Hey there - I was just wondering why you edited the 2410 article to remove references to “Cold Storage” taking place in that year. The Delta Recruitment version of the mission clearly identifies it as such, and it precedes “Surface Tension”.
Thank you for bringing that up! I was not aware of the Delta Recruit version mentioning this date... Also, please do not forget to sign your posts. --Akirasensei (talk) 18:38, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
  • Part of it's math, I think. The Romulan intro talks about "January 2409 - Two weeks before the attack on Vega Colony", setting the events of the tutorials in January/February '09; then the Flag Officer version of a Delta Recruit is from eighteen months in the future, which would be June 2410.
Personally, I'm of the opinion that the Delta Recruit part of the mission might take place later than the actual "Cold Storage" mission, it's just shoehorned in there to fit since the player's already on Lae'nas. All things considered, the Delta Recruit part would actually make more sense to take place after "Surface Tension" (Which just says '2410' without giving a month) or even after "Uneasy Allies" when the Iconians become a confirmed threat to face... of course it would have to be before "Blood of Ancients"... --Turbomagnus (talk) 19:20, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
I tend to agree. Integrating the Delta recruit "replays" into one proper timeline is certainly tricky. As I did not play the Breen arc during the Delta recruitment event, I can't really mull on that :p --Akirasensei (talk) 21:30, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
D'oh, totally forgot to add my signature the first time. The Delta Recruit cutscene in Cold Storage has a June, 2410 subtitle - I took a screenshot. It's the first on-screen acknowledgement that it is now 2410 to my knowledge, though obviously a number of other missions are almost certain to also occur in 2410. I think the best thing to do in the absence of other information is to consider Cold Storage the "tipping point." I do agree that this timeline is pretty silly, but it's all we've got.

Faction colors[]

Hi, I've added a few entries to Template:FactionColor in my last two edits there. They need updating elsewhere. Could you please copy them over, or give me temporary access to do so? Purpose of the latest edit is so the short codes I did for the mission template can be used elsewhere. Purpose of the first edit is so I can slowly work through templates that reference "Romulan" (meaning RSE) as I go and switch it to an RSE code, eventually freeing up the term Romulan to be used for Republic stuff which is what you'd expect when you put it in the first time. Thank you.Scientifictheory (talk) 11:03, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
