Console - Universal - Point Defense System
- For the Klingon equivalent, see Disruptor Point Defense System.
Automatically Attacks Nearby Enemies
[Console - Universal - Point Defense System] is a universal console available to Federation players. Like all universal consoles, the console can be equipped in any console slot on a ship. This console is usable on any ship.
- Special Ability: Point Defense System
Activates an automated Phaser Turret Point Defense System. This turret automatically targets all nearby enemies and assaults them with a furious barrage of phaser cannon bolts. The system is fully automated and is designed to destroy small threats like mines, and small crafts like fighters and shuttles, dealing ten times damage to those targets, as well as 3 times damage to frigates, although this damage bonus does not apply if equipped to a small craft. The system will attack multiple random targets, but will consider targets in close proximity to be a priority. The Point Defense System provides 360 degree defense, has bonus accuracy, but has limited range - about half typical weapons range. Normal ship operations, including standard weapon systems, can continue while the Point Defense System is active, and the system can be deactivated early if desired.
This Console Mod can be equipped on any ship, in any console slot. You may only equip one of theses mods on any single ship.
The Point Defense Turret is especially effective against the multiple high yield plasma torpedos - which are primarily used by the Romulan, Reman, the Borg and the Undine. It has also proven useful against the Crystalline Entity fragments, as well as swarms of enemy fighters.
- Federation players can obtain the console from the Heavy Escort Refit in the C-Store for 1,000 .
- Klingon players can obtain their equivalent, the Disruptor Point Defense System console, from Tholian Lock Box.
