The Heavy Cruiser is a Commander (Tier 3) level Federation Cruiser. This is one of the few Starfleet ship designs to have more than two nacelles. These cruisers are much more capable than a normal Cruiser.
Variants[edit | edit source]
Cheyenne class[edit | edit source]canon starship designs to feature four nacelles. Cheyenne class ships fought in the Battle of Wolf 359 and the appearance in TNG: "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II" remains the only time that this design has been seen on screen. Unfortunately it hasn't been hailed as the best looking starship out there.
Dakota class[edit | edit source]Starfleet. The design is an off shoot of the Cheyenne class but sports a much narrower saucer section.
Stargazer class[edit | edit source]Constellation class USS Stargazer (NCC-2893). This class design was put into production after the Dominion War to replace lost ships during that time. The design is similar to the Dakota class but has a much more modern hull and nacelles.
Performance[edit | edit source]
The Heavy Cruiser offers the first real taste of seasoned Cruiser flight. Unlike the previous tier of ships, this tier begins to sacrifice more maneuverability for firepower and armor. The Heavy Cruiser has 2 more weapon slots, 100 more crew, and twice as much hull strength as the Tier 2 Cruiser, allowing the player to better survive heavy combat situations. Learning to broadside enemies normally gets better results than a head on confrontation as turning becomes much more of a chore.
