The Hargh'peng Torpedo Launcher is a ship weapon that can be acquired in the Federation mission “The Doomsday Device”, the Romulan mission “Tradecraft”, the KDF mission “A House Pursued”, by random drop or via crafting but can also be received from a duty officer mission (KDF only).
Hargh'peng projectiles move as fast as Quantum projectiles, while causing slightly more damage at the highest levels (3313 for a MK XII Quantum torpedo, vs 3377 for a MK XI Hargh'peng torpedo). Upon impacting the enemy's shielding or hull, they also apply a radiation damage over time ("DoT") that bypasses shields. The DoT effect is stronger than that of an equivalent-level Plasma torpedo. The initial impact of the torpedo has a small area of effect ("AoE").
If the DoT radiation damage is not removed with Hazard Emitters or similar means, a secondary internal explosion will detonate causing AoE damage to nearby enemy ships (10 max). The secondary explosion bypasses shields of the main target, but not the shields of those affected by the AoE.
The power of Hargh'pengs are balanced by a fairly long (15 seconds) cooldown, the lack of a defined damage type to boost with a tactical console, and being completely unaffected by torpedo-based skills such as Torpedo: Spread and Torpedo: High Yield.
You may equip more than one Hargh'peng at a time (by repeating the mission) But, firing one Hargh'peng causes the others to begin a 10 second cooldown. The net result is being able to fire one torpedo every 10 seconds, instead of one every 15. Attempting to fire three Hargh'pengs has no benefit, and is actually a DPS loss (due to the wasted weapon slot.)

The Hargh'peng Torpedo Launcher was originally a ship device that could be acquired in the mission “The Doomsday Device” from February 2, 2010 - May 27, 2011. At the time, it was the only way to damage the Doomsday Device. The device has a full 360 degree firing arc and can be fired five times before it is consumed.

With the remastered “The Doomsday Device” on May 27, 2011, the ship device version of this weapon cannot be obtained any longer. It has been superseded with the non-consumable ship weapon version.
