Engineering consoles improve your ships performance capabilities. Power available, output/efficiency of deflector dish etc, can be modified through the use of engineering consoles

Four of the engineering consoles affect your ships individual power settings by boosting a single option. The effect can be stacked, so multiple consoles of the same type is an option. Each console of the same mark and rarity provides the same bonus, but to a different power level.

[edit] Armor Consoles
Armor consoles increase damage resistance and fall into three observed categories;
- Alloys provide either a Kinetic only or Kinetic & All Energy resistance. These are gated for specific Mk levels.
- Armors provide resistance for 4 energy types at a lower increase over platings.
- Platings provide resistance for 2 energy types at a higher increase over armors.
An armor that protects against a single energy type, or one that protects against all six without the kinetic resistance has yet to be discovered in game, if indeed it exists.
You can match your armor to the specific faction of ships that you're fighting. For example, the Borg use mostly plasma weapons, so equipping your ship with armor that increases your plasma resistance will reduce damage to your ship when fighting the Borg.
