[edit] Overview
Bridge officers have a wide range of abilities they can use, starting at rank I and continuing to a possible rank III. Their abilities follow a system of rarity. Most of the Bridge Officer abilities are common and are trained from basic candidates or from the Bridge Officer Trainer. Other abilities are only obtained from uncommon, rare or very rare Bridge Officers. These are given through the “New Officer” mission, or can be bought from the Exchange.
Your Captain can also teach your own bridge officers abilities. The abilities they can teach depend solely on which personal skills you picked for yourself. An example would be the personal skill Starship Energy Weapons; when this is skill is learned to six levels, it enables you to train your Tactical Bridge Officers to use the Commander rank space ability Cannon: Rapid Fire III.

In the tables below, the background colour of the table cell showing the rank of the ability is specifically colored to indicate where the skill normally comes from. These colors are as follows:
- Green: Abilities obtainable from the Bridge Officer Trainer
- Blue: Abilities that are obtainable only from Captain training
- Purple: Abilities that are learned from uncommon, rare, or very rare Bridge Officers
- Gray: Abilities that are generally unavailable through the above means. They may be innate to a ship, available to a captain either as a player ability or kit, or something else. The ability can be obtained from a kit unless there is a footnote included.
Note: The table below prioritizes abilities by Bridge Officer Trainer, then trainable by captain, and then available from non-common bridge officers. There is some overlap however (i.e. some non-common bridge officers have abilities that are also trainable by captain).
In addition, some abilities are not available by any known means: Dispersal Pattern Alpha III, Auxiliary to Battery III, and Auxiliary to Dampeners III.

Some of the descriptions below and also in the ability articles use common MMORPG abbreviations, these are:
- AoE: Stands for Area-of-Effect. See main article: AoE.
- DoT: Damage-over-Time. See main article: DoT
- HoT: Heal-over-Time. Same as DoT, however implies heals rather than damage.
- Buff: See main article: Buff

Bridge officer space abilities can only be used if the officer is of appropriate rank and is sitting at an appropriately ranked station. Even an Engineer of the rank Commander can only use Ensign/Bekk and Lieutenant abilities when he or she is assigned to a Lieutenant Engineering station on your ship. This is why obtaining new ships becomes so important, as higher tier ships generally offer more Bridge Officer stations of higher rank, which in turn gives you access to more abilities in space.
