The is an iconic 24th century design and sibling to the . It is no smaller than the Galaxy class, consisting largely of the same structural components in largely the same configuration, though it is more specialized than the Galaxy.

[] Performance

The Advanced Research Science Vessel gains 250 crew, but loses some maneuverability, due to its lower turn rate. Unlike its counterpart, the Ensign bridge officer slot is universal, allowing the player better diversity. Also different from its counterpart is that it gains another ability, in addition to the 's normal subsystem targeting abilities. This makes the Advanced Research Science Vessel especially adept at sensing abilities, including cloak detection. These ships have more crew than the , and though they share the same hull strength, they lack in turn rate.

[] Abilities

Federation Science vessels come with built-in abilities. These abilities do not automatically rank up when acquiring higher tier Science starships and must be gained through .

After activating a subsystem targeting ability, the player will have 30 seconds to attack an enemy ship with any form of beam weapon. The attack will lower power to that system, and have a small chance of completely taking the system offline. If the system is taken offline it renders all abilities that use that subsystem temporarily inert. For example, if you target the shields and subsequently take them offline, then all of the enemies shield facings will go down.

The Sensor Analysis passive ability grants the player a stacking damage bonus of 3.33% per minute against a single target whilst the player maintains target lock on an enemy. Once the player switches targets the bonus is reset.

Tachyon Detection Field gives the ship a strong boost to sensing abilities, as well as a small one to cloak detection.
